Hi everyone. I'm a Fil-Am studying in the Philippines (domestic program, not international) I just found out by word of mouth, so I'd like to know if this is actually starting to happen...
Apparently Cal BON is requiring graduates to pass the Philippine nursing board exam before they can apply to take the NCLEX in California. Is this true at all? I intend on going back to California right after graduation...I do not wish to spend more time in the Philippines to take their board exam if I won't be working here. Please tell me as I would like some clarification. Thanks!

Check CA BRN website but be aware BRN is clamping down on International trained nurses and many issues have happened with nurses being denied permission to sit NCLEX

You need to read the threads on here regarding the difficulties getting a nursing license in California.

Kabayan, it's been a CA written requirement to possess a local license for a year or more now. There have been some exceptions to this if you write a letter of explanation that you're a USC and the PH board does not allow anyone not of PH nationality to take the local PH exam.
But be prepared to get denied if your particular evaluator does not accept your letter, as there are cases here in this forum whereby other USC's or of dual citizenship were still able to take and pass the local PH license exam. Some reported they simply didn't check off the status box of their citizenship (even tho' they were not of PH citizenship) and still got to take the exam! It's actually to your benefit to get the local PH license, it's easier than taking the NCLEX-RN exam.
For the above reason it why I think a CA evaluator may or may not accept your letter, as they have probably seen both USC and of dual-C's still able to provide a copy of their PH license. It may also depend on your evaluator but why take that chance and go thru months then get denied for not having a PH license.
At some point, the CA BON may not care whether or not, you're a USC or dual and not allowed to take the local PH exam, it's not a CA BON problem and now becomes YOUR problem. No PH license proof, no ATT, simple as that.
If you plan to ever work in another state, there's a good chance that having the local PH license is also a minimum licensing requirement, why let that document stop you, better to stay and take the exam.
