CAAN Academy of Nursing LPN Program in Matteson, IL

U.S.A. Illinois

Published

Hello EVERYONE! I hope that I'm in the right spot to post this  but, has anyone heard of the CAAN Academy of Nursing in Matteson, IL.? Also called The Coalition of African American Nurses. It's an LPN school.

Or better yet, has anyone attended there? They had sent me an email regarding enrollment, but there is no information regarding tuition, and the numbers listed are either invalid or an answering machine -which doesn't even provide office hours.

I would just like to find out everything and anything I can about this school, so I know all of my options.

THANK YOU MUCH! :)

Has ANYONE attended this program? I cant find any reviews for it anywhere.....

Well, after so much devotion in calling and calling and calling with no answer, then finally an instructor picking up, she had told me that the exam is the TABE Test, and that the program is $17,500. You also need certain prerequisite courses. Now, this was last summer when I called and spoke with her. At that time they were trying to get approved for FAFSA, and they weren't accepting any type of grants, just straight out-of-pocket. There is a $35 application fee as well (unless that changed). The program catered to a certain group of high school students within that area. I even took a drive down there to get some real answers and turn in my application, but I was better off just calling lol. I'm now in another lpn program, so my interest ceased with CAAN Academy. I just responded of what I remember. I hope this helps.

I requested information about CAAN Academy almost 1.5 years ago. I gave up due to the lack of communication and available resources referenced to the program. Just a mess IMHO.

My friend and I wanted to attend however, she is at Northwestern Institute for Health & Technology and I will complete my first year of a RN progam in May, 2011.

i got the application and took the test but they have put off the class until June..they supposedly have sometype of grant from the Department of Labor that cover tuition if u qualify. I'm just concerned cuz I cant find any info on accredidation or any student reviews or nothing!! I know they used to only accept high school students but they have a program for adults now. I just dont want to waste my time with a program that my not ne acceptable! Im far too old for that nonsense!! Just seems a little disorganized to me...

I would seek a program with accountability, longevity, great reputation, and accreditation with the IDPR......NLNAC is another story. NLNAC is voluntary and a personal preference from the governing institution. However, in the near future I hear NLNAC may be mandatory. I really don't want to go down that road with NLNAC, NLN, or any other accrediting body because its to debatable based on personal opinion.

Therefore, I wouldn't waste my time with CAAN for aforementioned reasons in my previous post. I'm older and I really didn't want to play the waiting game with nursing programs. Best wishes in your future endeavors. :)

Yes I attend Caan Academy and will be finished in Nov,I like it and it's just like any other program..HARD WORK!

caan academy of nursing has an available lpn program for both adult and high school students. an application process along with baseline prerequisite courses is necessary for entry into the program. there is also a tabe test that applicants must take with a passing score of 12th grade or higher. practice for this exam can be found by following the proceeding link (http://www.testprepreview.com/tabe_practice.htm).

caan now has available morning and afternoon classes with available federal funding for those who qualify. phone lines are open from 9:00am to 5:00pm. we also have an office in matteson, il that is open from 9:00am to 9:00pm. information concerning caan academy can be found on our website caanacademy3.com. on our website you can also find the complete list of prerequisites, the application to be printed off line and turned in at the time of testing, as well as opportunities for employment.

thank you,

I'm glad I found this thread because I just called CAAN for more information and was directed to the website. I felt that to be so impersonal. I had questions that the website couldn't answer. I'm doing my pre req's for LPN at South Suburban right now and they only start LPN classes in the Fall, so I won't even be able get in until August of 2012. I was trying to get in sooner, but if I still have to have A&P before I apply at CAAN, I might as well wait for SSC, since I can't get into A&P at SSC until the Spring of 2012.

*sigh* This is what you get when you wait until your 40 to get a degree, lol.

That's pretty cold to call for information and then have them not want to take the time and direct you to a website.. just sayin...

Totally agree. All I said was "I have a few questions" and the receptionist immediately asked me did I have access to a computer. I was like "wow". I didn't expect that. Huge turn off.
