Hi, I have a question for any RN who moved to California after working in another state.
I worked for a year as an RN in Tennessee, moved to California recently. About a month after turning in all of my paperwork to get a CA RN license, I received a letter from the CA Board of Nursing stating that I could not be licensed b/c I have not taken Sociology! I mean, I passed the NCLEX, worked in a huge medical center for a year, and I thought there was a nursing shortage out here?
Guess I will get a temp. license and sign up for sociology but I already have two bachelor's degrees (BSN and business) so I'd rather start working if possible.
If anybody has advice as to how to fix this I'd love to hear it. thanks

Welcome to California...
Call BRN and see if you can use a CLEP exam to satisfy the sociology requirement; if they won't take the CLEP score directly then you should still be able to have the score sent to a community college and get it on a transcript that way.

guess what! I don't have to take sociology.
I drove to sac. to the board of nursing. The office is a small waiting room, with two plexiglass windows (like a movie theater) on the other end next to a locked door. I paid for a temp. license, was told to wait for 30 min. The guy seemed surprised when I said I wasn't going to sit in the empty room and wait. 20 min. later I came back. The "evaluator" told me that someone had made a mistake, and they would count my anthropology credits for sociology. But I couldn't get my $'s back now that I didn't need the temp. license.
Its crazy that I could not get this done over the phone.

Glad everything worked out for ya!
I'm wondering if im going to be screwed by something like that. I took all of my prereq nursing classes but in high school I had a final grade of a D in biology. So when I applied at nursing school they told me as long as i passed anatomy and physiology and microbiology before started nursing school taht they wouldn't require me to retake the biology. I'm going ot be moving from pa to ca next year once I graduate. So am I going to get shut down for getting a license too? When I read this post it really scared me! Is there any chance of this happening to me? I'm going to be taking my nclex rn in PA and then I"ll transfer my license to california once I move.

You passed A and P in college, you should not have any issues. You will just need to apply for Licensure by Endorsement; you will not transfer your original license, you will still keep it.
