CA licensure denied prior to expunging former DUI....

Hey all,

I am writing this to see if anyone has any experience/ advice to my situation.

I graduated from a BSN program Jan 2023 in California. I talked to my school about a DUI I had in 2020 when I was applying to the boards and someone told me id be fine to apply without getting my record expunged. I received a letter in the mail in March that my application had been denied and to either appeal it or reapply in a year. I was still able to take the NCLEX and passed. I hired a lawyer and got my record expunged and will be reapplying to the boards this upcoming March, 2024.  My lawyer said come march the board will not be able to deny me related to the DUI due to the expungement.

I am wondering...how long it may take to get my license this march once I reapply, how to explain this gap to future employers (planning on being transparent/honest), and if there are any certs I can be working on in the meantime besides ACLS, NRP,PALS. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Thank you

Were you able to get your situation resolved?  Just curious how the whole process went for you.

Well I just reapplied on the 21st of march! I will post an update when I get my license. Right now I believe it should take 4-12 weeks to receive. :)

Hi there, I'm currently in a similar situation , except I did not get an expungement but I graduated this year in February took my NCLEX & passed , I received my denial letter today and I'm just trying to see what my options are regarding hiring an attorney or should I appeal it myself. So my question would be what influenced you to just wait that year to reapply ?

Hey! I'm also in a similar situation as well. I took the NCLEX and passed in May 2024 and received a letter saying that my application was being denied and I had the option to appeal it so I did and I hired a lawyer but it's already been almost 4 months and we have not heard any update from the BRN. I actually have 2 DUIs, one from 2022 and 2023 so I'm a bit nervous... I just wanted to see if you were able to obtain your RN license. I'm actually thinking of expunging my first DUI since I have completed all of the requirements that the court ordered...

Hello any update on this?
