CA BRN New Requirements For NCLEX RN international students

World Registration

Published

I had already registered online in Pearson Vue but I think I'm not yet eligible to take the test. Is there an expiration date for my registration at PV?

I received a letter from CA BON requesting for new requirements such as:

  1. SS number
  2. Local license in the Philippines
  3. Copy of ur clinical rotation schedule for your cases: Assisted/Actual deliveries, cord dressing, and major/minor surgeries
  4. A complete school curriculum hundred pages or more sent directly from ur nursing school to the board. (the board doesn't accept the condensed version of the curriculum
  5. A one-page curriculum outline and academic calendar.

Fortunately, I had the first 2 requirements but I am worried that the last 3 will take time to be accomplished.

I am wondering if it's just me who have this requirement. Most of NCLEX passers I know weren't required on those listed above. It's really hard to focus on review while your thinking of this :uhoh3:

@ Daftspunk,

My wife's friends encountered the same problem. Her husband, who took the same courses she did but got his application to the boards in Nov 2011 was able to take and pass the test in California. She, on the other hand, waited until Jan 2012 and was unable to take it(concurrency). Even though they went to the same school at the same time in the Phils. She then applied to New York and was able to take/pass the test and is working there now.

@calirobThat's great that it all worked out for your friend there in NY. Guess it's just a matter of giving it a shot and applying there and taking chances. Is your wife enrolled in a school yet to take those deficiencies? Do you have any info bout the CSU Fresno program? Or any other school?

The husband applied into CA before the CA BON established some kind of cut-off month and year to accept any applications before they started the concurrency enforcment, had the wife done the same, she would have been okay'd, it's just bad timing.

The wife would not need to take the deficiency courses since she's already licensed in NY, unless she plans to endorse that license into CA, then she would need to complete the said deficient courses before the CA BON would approve the endorsement.

Having any out of state license is NO guarantee to be endorsed into CA or any of the other 14 or so States with the concurrency enforcements. The BON's will always be based on everyone's college transcripts to see if it meets that State's requirements plus any sort of language proficiency exams.

Hey everyone, have the same with my wife problem, do you know if there are still slots open. Here is my email, she has the ob/ms problem and concurrency. [email protected]thyank you
@steppybay, oh I was referring to calirobs wife, not his friends wife who has a NY license. What's the 14th state you're referring to? I've seen the thread that mentions 13.

@daftspunk Not yet, waiting for the holidays to come to an end and for them to return to work, plan to start calling them next week. If you find out anything, pls let me know also.

I know of two other schools, one in Fairfield and one in Fremont that are doing the same thing, but the costs are 16-18,000.00 for those two schools. One is on the approved list and the other seems to work with a school thats on the approved list. I dont have the names with me, but can post them later if you are interested.

Nevada.....just started enforcing it recently, let some earlier applicants get their ATT. However, this 2013 year the NV BON requires the local license.

There was a poster who got denied based on the concurrency rule, which clearly showed (in her letter from the BON) that NV has had this regulation since 1952! The year maybe a lot of our own parents were born around, give or take 5 years here and there!

Hello, CHED, PRC and PNA, you guys fell asleep at the wheel way back them, but luckily the USA always allowed foreigners in or maybe never enforced as strongly back in those forth coming years till recently.

Wowza.....must be private schools with no waiting list at those tuition prices.

What school is in the approved list? But these costs are just insane..

I don't have any different response, but it's what I have been saying since it was posted about CSU-Fresno earlier. I know they are accredited and all that, but still would need to be approved by the CA BON.

That being the case, it's also the questions my US nursing friends also mentioned to me and the same questions I had: with a possible 30 new students, how are they going to:

(a). find the school instructor(s)

(b). find enough clinical places to allow this many more students (they will help their regular enrolled 1st)

©. find enough nurse perceptors in each of these hospitals.

Unless CSU-Fresno is flushed with money and has no budget cuts, it's possible OR they too will have to charge at least what the private schools are charging from $7,000-$16,000.

From what I understand (US nurses), CSU-Fresno would have to propose a written plan to the CA BON and this summer would be not enough time plus the school would have to have enough funding to carry on such a project.

I've been MIA guys. Sorry. =( I've been strictly reviewing and been out of town couple of times. Last I've heard from the director was from November and she said she would be emailing january for the response. The director already explained the program being accredited by the CABRN but the problem they are facing is the clinical instructors and also budget. They may be postponing the exam to 2014.

No matter what guys keep your heads up, and don't give up. We'll all grab that opportunity one day and work as a nurse. Praying that I get mine this year. Well back to being an academic zombie again. Oh yeah to those who have me as a friend on fb, i deactivated my account. just give me a message and i'll try to help out. I will try to contact the director and have a feedback about the program by this month. =)
