Burn icu for crna?

I was wondering how competitive burn icu’s are in a level one trauma center for crna programs? It’s an 18-bed Burns icu/ Peds icu. It takes overflow patients from the other icus as well. The hospital is the only verified regional burn center for the four states surrounding it. I was wondering what are the kinds of things bicu nurses do that would impress crna programs?

Typically CRNA programs look for experience in traditional ICUs such as CVICU, MICU, and SICU. I would think some of these programs would consider burn ICU but I’m not sure since it is so specialized. If you are wanting to work in a burn unit, you may want to transfer to a traditional icu after a year to cover all your bases. Good luck

A lot of programs would be happy with it. If there’s a program you know you want to attend, ask them.

Burn patients are sick. If you are getting good acuity of patients, you should be fine. You deal with fluid shifts, electrolyte shifts, invasive monitoring, issues with ventilation and oxygenation and all the rest. As well as giving a literal *** ton of sedation at the bedside for dressing changes. If you have three years of experience, apply. You should be just fine.
