don't burn bridges!

Ok...So here is a lesson for everyone. Don't just "quit" a job. It WILL come back to haunt you!

Here is my story. I have worked at the same place for a few years. I left to try another facility. I worked at this other facilty for ONE day, hated it. The place, the tension from the staff, the director, everything. I know it was just one day, but it was apparent that it was a negative place. So, anyway after a couple of weeks off I went back to my old facility. Now a year later, GUESS WHO IS GOING TO BE MY NEW DNS IN A WEEK?? She is absolutely going to remember me...How should I handle this???

A director was hired at my facility. I had worked for her ONE day at another facility and did not return. I was worried that she would mention it to my current employees. Just in a chit chatty way.
One Saturday morning I looked up to see the Department of Health standing in front of me for our annual survey. The inspector on my unit was the former DON at a private facility I worked in for about a year-it was HORRIBLE. Staffing stunk and we frequently ran out of supplies but the state overlooked lots of major crap-I guess they were impressed by the therapy pets and art work. Anyway-this broad never had anything pleasant to say about any other facility. I was so pleased when we came through that survey with flying colors. She tried SO hard to bring us down-but she couldn't do it....

Since I worked in a very small community, most of the DNSs knew each other or at least knew OF each other. We would all give the standard :she worked here from XXX to XXX and we would hire her back..or we WOULD NOT hire her. I always told the other DNS the truth about employees ....and expected the same from them. This is health care...we're talking about care givers. Would I knowingly send a bad worker somewhere else? Not on your ( or the residents') life.

I thought it was true too, but I know so many people that have checked on other nurses and aids "off the record" before hiring them. Everyone knows everyone around here.
