Greetings,
I am currently enrolled at BCC full time and will be finishing the last of my prerequisites this summer. I have applied to the nursing program for Spring 2012 and I know not to expect information for quite some time. I have a 3.92 GPA and received a score of 71.3% on the TEAS V test.
Once I am accepted into the nursing program the only classes I have left to take are the following: BIO 155/156 (Micro, Lab), NUR 119, NUR 120, NUR 214, NUR 215, NUR 216. I have already taken the medication administration class successfully also.
I am looking for advice/answers from fellow students going through the process. I have a few questions/concerns.
Thank you very much!
It sounds like everyone on this thread is in a much better position then me. I wish that I could have got nutrition or micro done summer 1, but it was the same nights as the class I am already taking. I would feel much better better about possibly getting in for the fall 2012 start if that was the case. I really want to start already so I can get my life started. Im no youngster anymore.
Rach,
Don't get discouraged. You should still try to apply. I mean, I wont have every last pre-req done before I apply for the program, but i am doing my best to try to finish things up by the end of July. The Nursing Department encouraged me to apply though I did not have all of the pre-reqs completed. I mean, if they like you, and you do not have all of the pre-reqs, maybe they will waitlist you, and by the time they decide if they want to add you into the program, you will have had more classes completed. I have heard of this happening. Do what you can and be encouraged!

Prettidimples... I did apply for the spring 2012 start. I sent my application out on the very 1st day. I just really wish that I would have had more classes done. I feel like I have been at this for a long time (which I have).
I started classes back in 2009. I was told that I couldnt take any science classes until I was done all the remedial maths. I had to take both... it's been 11 years since I was in high school and I have always been bad at math. (technically I could have tested out of 055 but I decided it was good refresher). Anyway... on top of that I had to take a bio class that didnt count b/c someone at BCC told me that I didnt have the right lab in high school. (I know that I did b/c I remember disecting... but whatever). So I didnt think that I could pass the lab without the class (stupid me) and I took both the lab and lecture in bio. UGH!!! AND... I had to take intro to chem b/c I never took that in high school. So I have been at this a while... as you can see.
The messed up thing this is... there are people in my a&p class that are still taking their remedial maths. I was not allowed too register for ANY sciences until I was done all the remedial's. But I guess that wasnt the case. I could have had these science classes done a few semesters ago... atleast a few more done. It is a very frustrating process!! I feel that their are people at BCC that dont really know what they are doing.

Rach,
I feel your pain. I have my bachelor's in bio and i feel like i have been going at this school thing forever. Not even sure if i have enough pre-reqs to be accepted. But all we can do is wait and see. Which pre-reqs do you have completed and which do you still have to complete? Did you take the TEAS yet?
PD
I have so many classes done. I have some that dont count towards nursing (b/c I needed to be full-time for unemployment so I took random classes hoping it will go towards my BA at some point). But the ones that I have done that count toward Nursing are:
Eng 101
Eng 102
Psy 101
Psy 256
Bio 110, 111
Phi 101
Mth 107
Soc 101
Currently taking:
Bio 114, 115
Still need to take:
Bio 155, 156 (registered in the fall)
Che 210 (registered in the fall)
How about you? What is done? What do you still need to take?

Rach,
I have taken Bio I and Bio II, 3 Chem classes, Intro to Psych, 2 college English classes, Calculus, and A&P I and II. I am currently enrolled in Micro, Developmental Psych, and Sociology. Will be done those 3 by the end of July. Still need to take Intro to Philosophy. I took Che 210 at another school but it is under a different name so I am hoping it counts. But if not, I have to take that also. Oh, and i am taking the TEAS at the end of this month. Did you take the TEAS already?? I am so nervous. I just want to get in but I feel like all this work that I have done still wont be enough

I took the TEAS a few months ago when I had no science under my belt. I just passed (literally). I think that I got 62 or 63. I was going to take it again, but according to BCC a pass is a pass (doesnt matter if your grade is an 80 or a 60). I am sure if I took it again soon I would get a much better grade. I thought that they science was the only hard part. I literally guessed on that entire section. The rest I thought was pretty easy. Dont be scared over the test. You will prob think it is simple since you have had so many classes already. Just go... stay positive and do it!! I literally took it without much studying. I figured I would do it on a whim... if I passed GREAT, if not then I would study and go back again to take it. I was lucky to pass it the first time. Let me know how you do after you actually take it.
Rach,
Thanks for the encouragement. Ill def let you know how i do after i take it. I have been freaking out a little. Not sure if I will be accepted but i hope I will be! Just spoke with the Nursing department about the application process, just to double check some of these pre-reqs. At this point, its a stretch not sure if ill be one of the 60 who gets in...

Rach, I feel the same way! I wish I had stayed in college after high school!

Oh I am with you there. I feel like I have to talk to 3 people in person and 2 on the phone to get the possibility of a straight answer, and even then I'm likely guessing!
