I am applying to this school and have just been told my 81% on the reading portion for Teas V is too low. Apparently the program is very competitive and you must score at least a 95% on that portion. Now I am upset because I have to sit through the whole exam again just to raise my grade on that portion. What makes it worse if I get anything lower then the 81% they will only except the most recent. This is my first choice but the way it looks it will be hard to get it. Not to mention 800 applicants applied this year! Anyone get into their program with less then 90% on the teas? It seems their main focus is the Reading Comp.

I'm in the first semester of the ADN nursing program @ RCC. I know they do consider the TEAS exam, especially the reading/english portions. I think you'll do fine with your score. I've heard of a lot of people having to retake the TEAS because their scores were in the 60's or low 70's. The program is tough, but it's definitely worth it. After you complete your first semester of clinicals, you can apply at one of the hospital's for a PCA/CNA position. You should apply at the hospital that you eventually would like to work in. It is extremely encouraged to take on this type of position (before) you graduate. Best wishes to both of you with everything! :)

I was a transfer student from another state. My gpa (transferred) was a 3.79, and my teas score was in the 90's. I kind of blew off high school, so I wanted to really prove to myself I could do it, by doing better in college. I took Microbiology last semester, and while I took that on campus, I paid for two different 'Teas Refresher' Courses that my college was offering. One for Science, and one for Math. It had been a while since I had taken math, and just wanted a refresher course, and I had heard that the science portion was extremely strange (Earth's crust, lava, molten rock, clouds, atmosphere, rocks, earth's plates, and other things that have nothing to do with nursing) so I decided I should take the science refresher also. It helped a lot. Other people who took the Teas said they went to their local libraries and looked up General Science books and that helped them.

There was one heredity/genetics question, there was one question on Scientific rationale, and another on A&P. it varies for different people. I've always liked english, so that was not a problem. Just make sure you look at the time you have, read the paragraphs and answer the questions. They do consider those portions (Reading/English) heavily. They require all four sections math/science/reading/english - Some people used the ATI guide, others used a Kaplan guide. I just printed out the online material the courses I took had (i.e. basic math through college algebra refresher material; different topics/aspects of science).

It just depends on how you study. I was really nervous for the Teas, almost freaking out. After I took it, I can say it wasn't as bad as I thought it was. Just relax, make sure you study, take your time and understand what they're asking, but be watchful of the time. As many times as I asked someone else who took the exam, how was it???, I still hadn't gotten a good grasp on how it was. When you take it, you'll feel a huge relief.

Pay attention to the deadlines and look at everything there asking of you! A lot of people were rejected because their application packets were incomplete. Remember, there's two applications to enter the RN program, one for the school, and a seperate application for the nursing program itself. Make sure you have all your immunizations! If you have not had your Hep. B shots, make sure you get them on time. If you're not sure whether you've had the injections you can have your physician draw a titer. If it shows (positive) and it was within 5 years, they'll accept it, and you won't need to get the injections. Same thing with the MMR. Make sure you've filled out your FAFSA, and all your financial aid is sorted out. If you get accepted into the program, they will want you to take a CPR course before beginning clinicals (they'll let you know). If you have any questions, don't be afraid to call. The school nurse is extremely helpful. She answered all my questions regarding immunizations, CPR, and even about the nursing program. You can also speak to the Admissions Director - She was the one I kept in contact with. NEVER mail in your packets! As soon as you have everything together, physically go to the admissions office and hand everything in. Make sure to make copies of EVERYTHING.

That's all I can think of right now. If you have any other questions, please let me know :)

Thanks Sabr, very helpful. If I don't get accepted I'll retake the teas in Oct. I got a 85% overall but I was worried about the reading and English, both were only 80 and 81. We will see what happens.

Thanks this help alot

I applied to RCC and Quincy too. What have you heard? Bhcc or Roxbury has a better rep. What does Roxbury weigh their admissions on do you know what is the average composite teas score there? All I know is that all schools in the area and country have dropped their teas v requirements because it is more difficult. I was more impressed with Bhcc presentation. You?

Hey, did you here anything from RCC or BHCC? I got an acceptance letter from RCC yesterday. Still waiting on BHCC. You also mentioned Curry, anything yet?

I know bhcc was supposed to make their decision this week?????? I constantly get conflicting reports from them so hanging in there. I got into Quincy, rejected from Curry, nothing from RCC, maybe this week... I will keep you posted.

what was your overall TEAS score?

Oh sorry you didn't get into Curry but Quincy is a good school as well. Yes I expect to get a letter from BHCC this week, I am so nervous cause that is my first choice. I still did not apply to Quincy but I will soon, their deadline is July 15 so I have a little bit of time. Well at least you are in somewhere, I'm happy for you!

what was your overall TEAS score?

My overall score was an 85.3%.

spoke to bhcc today, they said letters should be out in two weeks...when is rcc deposit due
