Well, I didn't expect my first thread to be a medical question! I have a 3-year old niece who has a bump on her head behind her left ear. I just recently saw another smaller bump on the right side where her neck joins with her shoulder (I am so sorry for my lacking of better medical terminology:smackingf--I should improve in a few months since I'M STARTING NURSING SCHOOL ON AUGUST 20TH!!!!!) I really don't know what this could be. I was wondering if there were any nurses out there who've specialized with children that might be able to help me. Anything would helpful at this point, but we are definitely taking her to the doctor.
Thanks a lot!! I should be able to reply to posts like this in 2 years after my graduation!

Anything that looks like its not supposed to be there needs to be evaluated by a doctor. Other than that we can't give medical advice.
Well, I'm pretty new to this site--I wasn't aware that I couldn't ask for simple advice from experienced nurses. Would you be able to tell me about a good website that could give good info. on things such as this?
try webmd.

Part of the TOS----because we are nurses, not physicians, we cannot give medical advice because it is beyond our scope of practice.
As a matter of fact, I was watching all of the AN video tutorials today for the first time, and I heard Brian S. mention the TOS. I was going to read it as soon as the video finished, but with this niece of mine running around:roll, I completely forgot to read it. Thanks anyway! We'll be seeing her "healthcare provider" in the morning.

Is the bump directly behind her ear and it does it kind of feel like cartilage? I ask because I have a similar bump behind mine and it has been there my whole life. I remember my mom brought me to the doctor when I was really little to have it looked at it and he said it was normal. I don't even remember what the heck it is though!
Of course, I would bring her to the doctor anyway to have it checked out, especially since you said she has one by her shoulder?
Well, it's not directly behind her ear. It's not hard or soft. I couldn't really feel it b/c she wouldn't let me. Like I said before, she's 3--that should say enough.

As stated above, this is not a site where we give that kind of advice. Good luck. :)
