I'm trying to find options of how to build my experience and resume prior to nursing school while completely prerequisites. I'm already a volunteer at a local hospital and trying to apply for positions at hospitals. But because this is a career change, it's a bit difficult for my resume to get noticed.
Any suggestions?

Get a CNA certificate and obtain CNA employment, even if only for one shift a week or twice a month.

What do the nursing programs you're interested require on their applications? The schools I have looked into don't require a resume, although via the "point system" some do offer extra points for things such as CNA experience, volunteer work, and foreign language proficiency.

I'd like suggestions too. I did work as a CNA for 7 years (mostly home health care though I've also worked in long term care) while I was going to school for my AA and BSW degrees. Nursing is a career change for me and I have not kept my CNA cert nor have I worked in the field for almost 10 years. I do plan to work as a caregiver (likely without getting a CNA cert again) while doing prerequisites, but I'd like to have more experience with what RN/LPN duties look like. Any suggestions on what to seek in terms of volunteer work that might help?
OP, are you looking for experience to build a resume for a nursing school app or to help after school with obtaining a RN position?
A couple programs in the Washington DC metropolitan area require a resume when submitting your application. I'm assuming they go by a point system since applications are reviewed by a board committee at one of the colleges I plan to apply to.
