Hi Everyone!
I am a newbie here so I hope someone would welcome me with their warm knowledge about my dillema.
I studied and finished BSN abroad. and NO I AM NOT A BOARD PASSER. I am located in LA, California now. I want to challenge the NCLEX-PN exam while working on my paperworks for NCLEX-RN. I know it'll take time to pass the NCLEX-RN because waiting on the eligibility letter takes me forever. I want to be a licensed holder of anything(that is related to my course) so finding job will not be that pain in the buttt. Can anyone point me and tell me where should I start so I could take or challenge the NCLEX-PN exam? Challenging CNA exam was my first choice but someone in this forum advise me to take NCLEX-PN (LVN/LPN) instead. So I'm taking his advise. He didnt reply again so I thought posting another question would be helpful than waiting on his reply.
Please tell me where to start. I am planning to call the BRN regarding this but I want to do my own research first.
What are the papers I'm going to need to challenge the NCLEX-PN exam?
Is being an LPN/LVN is better that being a CNA?
I'm a BSN so do I need to take classes or training still?
Thank you for reading my post. Have a good one.
Hi. We have the same situation. I did apply in cabon for nclexrn but was denied due to the concurrency issue. The required me to take ob and ms but tge real problem here is finding a school thst will accomodate me for that subjects. Now, i decided to challenge the nclex pn. Currently browsing thru their website for application process and requirements.. How about you?
honestly i haven't done anything yet... I'm still waiting for the BVNPT to reply to my email and its already been to weeks.. tried to call them and waited for an hour till my baby wake up so i cancel every attempted call..if ever you know at least the first step to do please notify me... thank you so much
I also came here in LA just a year ago.. Been reading a lot of forums regarding our situation. And i came up with 3 options, 1. Go back to school for ms and ob to qualify for nclex rn. 2. Challenge nclex pn. 3. Try applying nclex in other states that doesnt have the concurrency issue.
I really dont know what to do, thinking for months which option will i go for.. Been talking to nurses and lvn whom i meet at work, as i am currently working in homecare for hospice patients.. And just today, i finally decided to pursue the lvn route.. ☺
Hi everyone! I have the same problem regarding NCLEX-RN, im international graduate too from Philippines. My mother in law told me to try LVN exam. Now i don't know where to start. Did anyone here already tried to take LVN exam? What's the requirements and how to process? Hope anyone can help me here. Thanks

Every State Board of Nursing in the US has its own requirements regarding Practical Nursing licensing. Some states will only allow a graduate of a practical nursing program to take the NCLEX-PN, others will allow a graduate of a registered nursing program to take it. You have to check with the BON for the state you are trying to get a license from as to whether you will be permitted to do it.
With that out of the way I can tell you that thinking you can pass the PN exam after failing the RN exam is a problem. You aren't likely to pass at all. The scope of practice is different for a PN than an RN but it's not an easier route to becoming a nurse at this point. If you can't pass the RN exam you aren't in a good position to pass the PN one.
International students who fail the exam are much more likely to continue to fail, that's just the fact. What to do? Get a tutor who has had success with the NCLEX-RN, working with students who have failed previously. That's your best (and maybe only) hope of passing at this point. Good luck.
