BSN vs ASN

Published

From what you have witnessed, are RN BSNs any better than RN ASNs in terms of skill, knowledge, etc?

Not necessarily true at all. I wouldn't rely on this one for ten minutes. And how many hundreds of times do we hear how hard the first years of practice are, how draining, working variable shifts...and you think it's a great idea to overlay nursing school on that?

I graduated with students who did it. I personally did not sit for the PN NCLEX, because I know my limits, and it would have been too much for me to work as an LPN and finish the last year while doing it. I did not mean to make it sound as if this is the best route for everyone. But it IS something to consider when deciding which route to take to get your BSN.

So... what does ADN vs BSN have to do with magnet status?

This statement shows your utter ignorance on the matter.

Why are you assuming all nurses want to work in a hospital? Numerous classmates of mine obtained their LPN and worked in LTC/SNF the last year of the ADN program. There are also clinics and physician offices to work. There is a LOT of experience to be gained in a SNF.

I guess I feel the experience is very limited to bsn due to the work environment. Say all you want. I honestly said I could not find a link because until recently there was no set number for bsn nurses to be set as a designated percentage.

So what you are telling us is that you went to lpn school and didn't take the nclex pn because you knew your limit? But you are telling other people to do it? Ok lol

"The more you know"

Knowledge is power.

80% by the end of 2015 enrolled or actively seeking higher education for Magnet standards was a slide broadcasted on a screen in their conference.

80% is the new standard of the facility for BSN. I have an ASN and am going back for BSN. I have worked all the way through. It is a matter of choice. The area facilities are no longer hiring ASNs.

How ignorant. I simply said it is an advantage for those who WANT to do it. I did not go to "LPN" school. After the first year of a 2 year program one is eligible to sit for the NCLEX PN. I applaud those who did and worked their last year of nursing school

We graduated with our RN at the same time, yet those who worked as an LPN already, are leaps and bounds ahead of me now. I don't give a crap how one obtains his/her RN. People are pointing out the advantages of going straight for the BSN. I simply pointed out advantages SOME people have in going another route. As far as what you feel, you are just a student with no clue. Get your RN, work ANYWHERE, then get back to me.

As far as knowing my limits, I have very severe insomnia and an incredibly painful condition that others told me to not even go to nursing school. Screw em. I went to nursing school and worked as a PCT in a hospital despite my sleep deprivation and incredible pain. Most of my classmates obtained their LPN and worked as a nurse while finishing school. These were women and men with children/families to care for. Not 20, 21, 22 year old brat kids.
