BSN Right Away???????

Published

Hi, Im a nursing major at GPC. I know that there is a high demand for RN's and I know I won't get paid as much as an RN whos got their BSN. But will I be making enough and getting enough job opportunities without my BSN right off the bat? Will I get my feet in the door say like at Grady hospital with an ASN? I am planning to go to either Ga state or Ga baptist school of Nursing, but I'm eager to " get my feet wet". What is the best way to go? I know I can always go back and take some classes afterwards.....:uhoh3:

Hi BucklandRN,

It is my understanding that the difference in pay between an ADN nurse and a BSN nurse is that a BSN nurse only makes .50 more and hour. Also the BSN is required if your goal is to move into a management position. I've read that here and been told this by several people.

I don't believe that you will have a problem securing a job with an ADN. You could always call around to the hospitals that you would consider working at and speak with their HR person to check for yourself.

All the best and take care.:)

omg!!! .50 cents more??? that's crazy. but i guess if you want to be the head nurse or go into a specialty it would not hurt to have your bsn. i was actually working at grady hospital as a pharmacy technician and I talked to the nurses whenever i got a chance. they all seemed pretty frustrated with their jobs. most of them advised me to get a bsn if i decided to be a nurse. BUt thanks alot or your reply!

Go for a BSN now, especially if you are single and have no kids.

Your quite welcome. I agree with the subsequent advice to get that bsn asap. I am getting my ADN because it's best for me right now; however, I will immediately begin working on my BSN once I'm working because it will only get harder to go back.

All the best.

well i do have a son. and im so anxious to make some money now. but i will not get complacent. ill keep moving forward little by little. :)

The BSN's I know here in South GA. only make about .50 cent an hour more than I do and sometimes have more responsibility. I am looking for a weekend program to go back and get my BSN.

There's no differential for BSNs in central Illinois. However, having a BSN gives you more leeway in getting jobs. GOod luck...

No problem securing jobs as an ADN nurse here....

But....

WHY ARE YOU WANTING TO GO TO GRADY....ARE YOU INSANE?????????????

I respectfully suggest that you use the search option, and look up "Grady". There are many threads on them, and few of them are good.
