BSN required for Montefiore travel RNs?

Published

Has any of you encountered this prerequisite as a travel RN at this facility? I have heard that "Monte" can be incredibly picky sifting through resumes and that they will not consider less than a BSN for a staff position. I am hoping this does not apply to travel RNs...

Is this NY? PA? Either way, your recruiter will know if BSN is a prereq for a traveler. I've not heard of that requirement for a traveler before but it is certainly possible.

It' s in the Bronx, NY. I fear that the potential recruiter might not be totally truthful in hopes I do all the paperwork submission for him and then have me at his disposal for something else!

That is always a risk with any agency. There is more to it than just bait and switch though, it is good psychology. After investing so much time in signing up an agency, you feel a certain sense of commitment. Works like that in all relationships, often to our misfortune!

This might be a new thing. They also like to cut contracts for ridiculous reasons to wean people out. Not worth it anyhow.

Have you worked for Montefiore in the Bronx? Staff or travel? Thanks!

I did hear that from a traveler who worked in their CVICU back in October.

Thank you! I am waiting for a call back from my recruiter...I will share the findings :)

Specializes in ER.

NYC has been requiring BSN lately, even for travelers. However facilities are starting to make " exceptions" because they are turning away a lot of competent experienced nurses. NYC was hit hard from the hurricane and recent hospital closures so all of the hospitals are overwhelmed.

Thank you, that makes perfect sense. My recruiter just assured me that BSN is not needed for this assignment, so I should be GTG for now. I have been putting off my BSN, but it might be time to start researching online programs...I feel a bit insecure at the moment!

Right now, it is very unlikely that getting a BSN will make any difference to a travel nurse career. Certifications or a specialty change will make a much larger difference to your marketability than will a BSN.
