Premiums such as this serve to divide nurses, not unite them. Vote AGAINST BSN premiums.

I know my main argument would be that obviously a BSN nurse would have incurred 2 more years of time and money in school, and should be compensated for it.

But I'm against having a hospital full of BSN's so I can't think of any advantages to argue for.

I think the BSN question should be addressed at the time of hiring. A premium is not needed if the employer requires the BSN as a condition of hire.

I totally agree the educational requirement should be addressed upon hiring, but it is not because it is not a requirement at this time. Therefore it isn't in the contract.

Everyone has an opinion of the pay premium. However, I posted this under the union forum to see what others did to make this a success, other than quoting research. I'm not looking for arguments for OR against. Only what others did. The end. :)

Unfortunately, you do not have the ability to dictate how others respond to your posts. The internet does not work that way. What fun would that be?!

And because I can, I would like to say that I also disagree with pay premiums for BSNs. If the hospital wants to hire BSNs that's terrific, but don't pay others more for doing the same job. The end.

Everyone has their opinion. I'm cool with that. My job is to not reinvent the wheel on verbiage, not garner opinions.

I know it seems like it would be an incentive but it would probably end up as a pay cut for future associate degree nurses. If everyone wants them to be a BSN level anyway, why pay extra for that? They are doing the same job as they were doing before. With a BSN, I had no extra duties applied to me. I am in the same role that the hospital deemed to be worth X amount of dollars. It is going to be a tough sell to add on now unless you have an actual shortage of BSN nurses in your area. Maybe ten or twenty years ago during the mythical shortage where supposedly everyone had jobs begging for them to apply this could have been won easily. My hospital has no issue finding nurses and so they can be picky if they so desired to be (right now they just require associate nurses to get a bachelors degree in 5 years).

We're not union but it will be a tough sell.
