BSN Philippines: Second Coursers 2013

Hello,

I'm a U.S. Citizen/Filipino Citizen that would like to earn a BSN in the Philippines in order to sit for the NCLEX-RN exam in the United states. I am aware that there are concurrency issues, and I'm willing to take the BVNPT as a second option. I'm interested in getting a BSN in the Philippines as a 2nd Courser... Also, I've inquired at St. Dominic Savio College in Caloocan City, Philippines and they quoted that their program is 2.5 years in length, which I do prefer over a 4 year BSN degree.

May I ask, are there any recent graduates of a 2nd course program such as St. Dominic Savio College: BSN for Doctors and Second Coursers that have turned in an application into the BRN and have been recently approved to take the NCLEX-RN in the United States? You're thoughts and time are very much appreciated. If you have any suggestions or information on other colleges in the Philippines that are offering similar BSN courses please feel free to post, thanks!

I know 7 people from saint dominic savio who work as a registered nurse 3 in nevada 4 in arizona. All took the nclex between the months of september 2012-feb 2013.. But then again, they are not second coursers. They have completed the 4 year program. And is using the new curriculum.

That's great news that the 7 people you know are now working as RN's in the States. Do you know if all 7 are RN's working in a hospital setting (ER, ICU, Peds, L&D, etc) versus the non-hospital jobs(nursing homes, SNF, LTC, rehabs, private caregivers, etc)?

is there any body out here who graduate as St. Dominic of Savio college in the Philippines that is currently working as an RN in the US? i am planing to study in that school and would like some feedback if a i will going to encounter any problem,thanks....

I think that this school may soon come under the microscope of the CA BON as that's partly why the CA BON asks for full sets of passport copies to see if it matches with the same approximate dates and years that one supposedly attended the school and did not submit false documents as being doctored up by the school administrators to "meet the concurrency rules" and completion of dates.

So those applicants and anyone passing the NCLEX exam will always to look behind their backs (for years to come as there's no statue of limitation) as if the BON finds they did submit false documents whether willingly or unwillingly, it's still enough proof of evidence, this is known as a "fraud offense", to revoke one's RN license permanently and have a claim against them for submission of false documents and could face not only a lifetime loss of the RN license but look at paying some pricey fines and penalties and more if they have to hire a defense attorney.

WvMvW,

If you are really sure that you have the discipline to study on your own then do pursue a second course here in PH. Last time I know, it's kinda illegal or CHED no longer allow schools to offer 2nd courses.

I graduated in DAVAO last March 2012 as a 2nd courser BSN. It says in my transcript that I took it for 3 years but the actual deed was just a year of lecture and duties, plus another 6 months of case completion. And the rest was just waiting time for graduation (BUT: you can't go back to US because technically you are still in school).

Next TIP: pick a school who were able to send nurses to other countries because they know the ins and outs of the process. JUst like CA BON, they have a concurrent rule which means that the semester you took for example maternity and child lecture should be concurrent with the RLE of your maternity and child. And because of the high number of Filipino nurse student, sometimes they forgo the RLE after a sem or two because there are no more open slots. I know this because my sister is helping me and she is a Nurse supervisor in one of the Kindred Hospital in CA. She updates me and help me how to go about my papers.

So, to make everything short, I applied for licensure in Marianas, got my schedule December 2012, took the NCLEX exam on Feb 27, 2013 and according to VUE trick, i passed. That's just take one. Marianas said they mailed my letter on March1, until now I'm still waiting for it. So, if I can do it, why can't you?? Don't be affected by too much negativities. If you need help, just let me know.

That's fraudulent no wonder CA BON is tougher on the PI grads now.

Studying nursing in the Philippines is a lot more expensive. Tuition, living expenses, air fare etc. I graduated in '97 and i don't remember paying more than 4 gran at my local community college here in socal. Even my BSN wasn't much. My husband is a nursing student graduating this Dec with ADN from our community college (socal) and his tuition this semester is $480. Total cost for the whole program was less tan five thousand including books and misc expenses. The only thing is, the academic expectation is thru the roof.

The notion that it is cheaper in the PI doesn't hold water.

Guys pls stop focusing your selves too much about US bla bla.. there are many nations who are ready to accept you as a Nurse like Norway, Germany, New Zealand and Canada these nations are in need of nurses too and better pay as well..

Hello Ecinnaj,

Can you tell me what school is that in davao that gives 1 year of lecture and duties and 6 months case completion?? is that Davao Doctors college or Brokenshire College?I am planning to take up BSN in Davao as a second courser. thanks.

The second courser programs have been known not to be accepted by some countries, New Zealand Canada UK just to name a few.

Not true about Canada, as they recently removed nurses off the Skilled Workers List.

As far as NZ goes, if you're assuming that as a new grad without a couple of years minimum of paid working hospital experience, NZ will not be a good option as they do require the experience.

You're right about to "stop focusing your selves too much about US bla bla.." based on this article

Philippine nurse immigration to the USA is dead. That's the hard truth.
