ICU for a year, start trying to get pregnant (after orientation lol). Have baby. When on maternity leave, start applying to NP school. Go back to work part to full time, but move down to prn or part time once you start school. I don't know your personal circumstances, but that is what I would do.
I started grad school (at the University of Washington, even) with a 6-week-old and finished 5 months pregnant with my second (first was then almost 3). You can be pregnant in FNP school if you want to. Seems to me you have to make up your mind between going to ICU (which, to be fair, you should promise yourself a couple of years to get minimally competent in) and FNP school, a totally different trip.
I think FNP school and work afterwards might be more family-friendly, but hey. Your decision. How about hitting that yellow bar up top of the page (Specialties) and asking in the critical care and NP fora how they did the same thing you could do, i.e., work ICU vs FNP school with a pregnancy/new baby??

Hello all,
My husband and I moved home to FL from WA in June. I took the first Med Surg job offered to me. In WA I worked on a step down unit.
I really want an ICU position but at this hospital they do CCIP every so many years.
I also want to go back to school for FNP. My husband wants us to start a family.
I am not sure which direction I should follow.
Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated
Thank you
