BSN Graduate in the Philippines

World Registration

Hi there. Here's my problem regarding NCLEX-RN Examination. I am currently residing here in Washington state. I applied in California board of nursing to be able to get my eligibility to take the NCLEX. The problem is, they require me to take additional course work specifically medical surgical nursing and obstetrics. I don't know what should be the best thing to do. I am thinking to apply for a new application here in Washington since I am residing here. The thing is, I will do the application all over again together with CGFNS and TOEFL exam. I am worried that what if, Washington would also require me to take additional classes. But, If I am not going to try it here, I would never know. The thing is I don't want to take another risk of applying considering financial aspect. I feel like I've wasted so much time, effort and money in applying in California. I need some advice. What do you think should I do? Apply here in Washington or pursue the California but I will need to study again. I am also having a hard time completing again all my requirements since there is no one in the Philippines to help me in my requirements. I mean, I don't have any relatives to do it for me. If I will apply here in Washington, most likely I still need to go back in the Philippines to gather all the needed requirements in CGFNS and take the toefl before I be able to send my application here in WA. Thank you.

Hi there,

What school did graduate at and what batch? I am also graduated in the Philippines, got my license at CA endorsed in WA. I don't have any problem with my nclex application before considering that I am graduated at the province area. Maybe we could talk, i will PM to you my email address.

Specializes in Complex pedi to LTC/SA & now a manager.

Moved to Nurse Registration Forum in World Nursing section. There are numerous threads regarding issues IENs are having with gaining registration approval from CABRN.

Specializes in Medical and general practice now LTC.

Always better to apply to the state you plan on living and working in. Even if you had met CA requirements and passed NCLEX if you planned on working in WA you probably would still have had to meet the same requirements. Nothing stopping you from applying to WA just be aware if you later plan on endorsing to CA to work you will still have the same issues

To the OP, it is believed that the State of WA is also one of the 13 states that will give you the same problem as in CA:

You might be able to look into taking the deficient course or courses in WA, but if it's like in CA, it's nearly impossible to just take the one or two courses, as you may be asked to enroll in the complete nursing program or find you're competiting for 1-2 spots out of several hundred to a thousand or more, like in CA.

Don't forget, it's not only those from PH, but there are many other foreign students from all over, that are affected by these rules and regulations.

As of now, it seems the open states without the issues of the above 13 are Montana, NV, NY, OH, Michigan, MN or WI.
