BSN graduate with no license

Published

Hello AN,

Please I need some clarity about the CRNE exam. Can an international nursing graduate with BSN be allowed to take the CRNE without prior nursing license in her country?

Your insight is appreciated. Thanks

The last CRNE was offered in October 2014. Canada uses the NCLEX-RN as of 1/5/2015. I believe all Canadian provincial colleges of nursing require an IEN to be licensed in their country of education. So a BSN without a license in the country of education cannot be license in Canada. The exam is but one step in the process

JustBeachy is correct. The exam is the very last step in the process; you have to meet all the criteria for registration set out by the Colleges of Nursing (now screened through the NNAS) - which includes being registered in the jurisdiction where you received your education - before you'll be given authorization to test.

If you want to know more about registereing as a RN in Canada then I suggest checking out the Nurse Registration forum. If you want to know more about immigration to Canada then check out the Advice on Immigration forum and ask appropriate questions in the appropriate forums. As mentioned as a IEN there is a lot of hoops to jump over plus CRNE finished last year and we do the NCLEX

It says you have three years of experience, does that mean you are licensed and working someplace else?

@dishes, if you read my post very well, you will notice that I wasn't directing that scenario to myself.

Thanks Justbeachynurse for your response

@ademumirola, the reason I asked my question is because the College of Nurse's of Ontario does not stipulate being licensed in country of education, but they do require proof of recent practice in the past three years.
