Broward College RN Program May 2010

Published

Has anyone turned in their application yet?! Btw, I heard that Central campus might NOT have a May class :sniff:

If you feel more geared towards going to north, don't let the drive discourage you. I live in Miami. I'm 35 miles (one way) from south campus, where I currently attend the program. And I know another person on here who did the same when she was in the program. Last year I even had to take chemistry at central (approx 40 miles one way) and micro at north (approx 55 miles one way).

It usually takes me anywhere from 30 to 45 minutes to get to campus. I leave home about an hour and a half to two hours before class starts. I use the extra time to sit in my car and study. And what I have decided to do come January, is record myself reading from my notes or powerpoints, and listening to them on the morning of my exams as a quick review. I figure I have been wasting precious time. LOL

If you are determined and set your mind to it, the drive will be a piece of cake. Just leave early, have a good breakfast, burn some good cds, and you will be on time everyday. I actually enjoy the drive! It helps me clear my head. :D

That's Great Honeybee, that's exactly what i did, i live on miramar and university, and i used to drive my motorcycle to the train station and ride the train all the way to FAU in boca. As far as may is concerned, i just turned in my application for the RN generic program. Hopefully, my 8 points will get me in, i hope.

yeah, first they come to class to give us info and feed us lunch to attract us to their hospital i suppose. then, you apply, and if you are selected, you get the moolah. i'm looking forward to meeting with them next semester, however, they came in to talk to us briefly during orientation the first week of school and told us there are about 30 spots total between all 3 hospital groups for all 3 campuses, which means theres a lot of competition.

sunray, do you know what they look for when they are in the selective process... you are so informative!!!

Hey Dawn. Yeah, I got my anatomy book the same way. It was like $.99. And I had no problems using it through the courses.

Are you worried about getting in? I'm a little low on points too. I heard 8 points is enough to be an alternate, but it's going to be close whether or not I even make that.

Can we use the same anatomy book from Dade...

Yay for jam911 :yeah::yeah::yeah: but I also live closer to Central and I don't know what to do either....I would Hate to get into central and Not be treated right especially during the May program where everything is condensed :(

THAnks RN2BKD

you know how it is when we all assume.. but now i can focus on my point and pray i get in!!! it nerve wrecking now cuz i made it so far!!! the time is clicking.. TIC TOC.. we are almost there everyone!!!:yeah:

I have NO idea about the selection process for the scholarships yet because we don't meet with them and get all the info and applications until January! But when I find out more and go through the process of applying, I will post the info here. I do know that the are very few students chosen- 30 students total from all three campuses for all three scholarships, not per campus or per scholarship. We meet with them right after we get back from break, so I should have more info soon.

You don't need to use your anatomy book for class, so it doesn't matter which one you have. Some people refer back to theirs but its not a required book.

Does anyone live in Plam beach county?

Can we use the same anatomy book from Dade...

Not entirely sure. I'm 95% it won't matter. I'm ashamed to admit...i've taken anatomy more then my fair share. No teacher has ever taught from the book. At most, they'll just add a reference to a chart or figure in the book. As long as it covers the same material, you should be fine. If you're concerned about the discrepancies, i have a book you're welcome to use for the semester.

silent mind, if you need to take anatomy again let me know.. i know the perfect teacher at dade. over the summer i did anatomy lec and lab in summer A 6 weeks and Anatomy 2 Lec and lab in summer B and I Got A's so the teacher is A***. F*******z the other teacher is C******nt..EASY EASY you will get an A

i wonder if the pay as is the same with someone that has a ASN and a BSN.. I heard the pay is the same and the only thing different is if they need a charge nurse for that night, then you will be selected if you have a BSN.. Does any of one know...

Also, what is the starting pay?

I ask because a Teacher can have a Masters in anything and it does not have to be teaching but they will still get compensated for just having a higher degree if they get hired as a teacher...
