Hi everyone I didn't see one made yet so I guess this will be the official thread for BC May 2015!
My intent after obtaining my ADN is to attend RN to BSN program. Then obtain my Masters, in Women's health . Ultimate goal is to become a Nurse Practitioner or Midwife, and possibly teach at a College or University level. I know tuition, and loans may pile up but, there are plenty of programs that will assist with paying off loans. Also, loan forgiveness programs avaliable for nurses who work in underdeveloped communities. 😄
Thats true, 8K is nothing compared to other programs. I will probably wait 3 years and pay off some loans before I jump into more for the BSN, plus I think in some colleges including BC, they give you credit for having experience. I have heard of people getting their tuition covered while working in a hospital, but I have never actually met someone who has been through that situation. All I know is I want to work with kids, babies specifically. I love it, so I will probably specialize in that. Ambitious, I know of one person who wants to be a nurse midwife and I never even thought of that lol. I know you need a Masters for that. I am not going to lie, the only thing that is keeping me from panicking is that Broward college nurse grads have no problem finding jobs as only having an ADN. I heard more and more hospitals are hiring only BSN grads. I really hope that whatever hospital I work for can at least give me some tuition reimbursement. I think that would be great!
One of my friends who also checks this website from time to time was looking into the Chamberlain program for when that time comes for his RN-BSN track. But....I checked the tuition and its about 15k, a lot more expensive than BC lol
I am guessing hospital DO do this, because this is what I found for Broward General for example:
Broward Health assists employees with pursuing voluntary health care related degree and certificate programs atnot-for-profit accredited institutions. Employees should contact their Regional Human Resources Departmentfor reimbursement forms and program guidelines. Approved certificate programs are reimbursed up to $500 anddegree programs up to $5,000 on a calendar year basis. Additional tuition reimbursement support may beavailable through a scholarship award at Broward College.
Exactly that is true. However, according to some research I've done there will be a Nation wide need for nurses by 2020. Although, most hospitals do prefer BSN they do hire nurses with ADN. For example, I have a cousin who works at Broward Health she started with her ADN and recently received her BSN and is progressing towards Masters to become Nurse Anesthetist , BTW she is a mother of 3 and a wife. So, she has her plate full, yet she is accomplishing a lot. So all-in-all it's possible lol
thats amazing. No excuses for me, at least not yet LOL
I don't want kids any time soon....not that I don't like them...its just i want to be able to have time to be with them you know? I know a lot of moms struggling to make it work, and hey good for them because that is just amazing! But i have the chance to do it without little (or big haha) bumps on the way and then i can worry about doing all that and settle down
I do have a lot of respect for mommies working and going to school full time. So proud to be a woman i tell ya

Hey giggles I too am planning on doing RN-BSN after I get my ADN. I'm hoping to get a job at the hospital so maybe they will pay for my BSN. You never know! :)
Also I already have my DEP & speech course (those were required at MDC which is where I originally was gonna go) I think I would only need the health and wellness.
Either way 8k is nothing compared to how much these private colleges are charging. Not to mention that RN salary will help
