Broward College Nursing May 2015

Published

Hi everyone I didn't see one made yet so I guess this will be the official thread for BC May 2015!

Remember that's an 8 week schedule they are talking about. Summer is 6 weeks. Return demo week 3 for both classes. Things are faster and classes are an hour longer... so usually 8-12 for theory. That's pretty much the only difference. You will do great.

Thanks for all the info !!!

THANK YOU SO MUCH for posting that!!! :) I can't explain how much that has helped. Really appreciated :)

Good morning everyone! Just wanted to post another bit of advice that one of the current students just posted up about the program. I know all our experiences might end up being different and the timing is definitely different (since we're starting during summer term) but it's good advice to help us in organizing ourselves without all the horror stories and negativity. This post is from a student at North campus: Neeza0930

"I am at North Campus.

The first 4 weeks of the program is extremely time consuming but once you manage your time wisely and get organized you'll be good to go.

My schedule was:

Monday/Friday Process 1 Lecture - 9AM-12 PM

Wednesday Process 1 Clinical - 7:30AM-7:00 PM (The first week only its both Tuesday & Wednesday)

You can either choose math on Thursday or Friday but I had Friday 1-5 PM.

For return demo, North Campus required 5 mandatory lab hours but its not enough if you want to pass return demo on your first attempt. I practically spent as much time I could practicing. Between reading 10-15 chapters for each exam and reading for clinical, most of your time will be spent reading. The first 2 exams are 50 questions and the final is 100 questions. Also the grading scale for the Nursing Program is different than the regular courses. I think a 92 - A, 83 - B, 73 - C so you want to get the highest possible grades on the first 2 exams. I passed Process 1 with a B which was very difficult, I was disappointed that I didn't get an A. But hopefully in Process 2 I will. Pharmacology is easy, the Professor gives good reviews and once you study you'll be good. All the professors want you to pass but it's up to you to make the commitment."

Ok everyone will keep you all updated, so far we've heard from Central and North, I just posted asking anyone from South to share their experience. Hopefully we'll hear back from someone! :)

South is quiet in the summer. Last year there was only one process 1 class so everyone is close together. There was only one of each class so you had everyone in all your classes. Some other classes are off so the campus is pretty quiet. It is nice.

The schedule was pretty much the same. You dont choose times. They send you an email with the class available and you just enter that.

summer for south was.

Mon/Thur 8-12 theory

Tue or Wed clinical

Week 1 we had Tue, Wed, and Friday clinicals

Week 2 we had Tue, Wed, and Friday Clinicals (0700)

Week 3 you have Tue or Wed (your day) with return demo

clinicals

after that you have your regular clinical day (T or W)

Thur. 1-5 math for 4 weeks

Fri 1-3:30 Pharm the entire semester

We usually brought lunch and stayed on campus.

Lab hours had been like 12 hours plus lots of extra to get ready for week 3 return demo!! You have to keep doing hours after return demo (at least at south)

The time flies by.

Wow! Thanks so much for sharing this Hammockbound! Nice that everyone is just together in one class and that there's just the one class to choose from. Makes it easier to register. I'm planning on attending south it's the closest campus to me even though I liked central but I don't want to risk ever being late due to unpredictable florida traffic. Thanks again for the insight! ;)

Hey Hammockbound quick question I think you may have already answered this before, u started May 2014 right? If so does that mean u are getting ready to have the small break they give u in the middle of the program or is that in the second half of the summer semester?

Our break is after this semester so yes. ;) (1st half of summer)

Hey guys. Havent been on in a while. Just wanted to let you guys know that last year before i decided to stop being afraid of failure and applying to the nursing program at broward, i applied to the pta program. I am not sure qhen this happened, i checked about 2 days ago..it no longer said application in review...it said denied due to availability of program..i think due to the lack of points from not having medical terminology, but either way. That's good news for us because now we know pta applications are done!!! Which means, we are next!!!! Just wanted to logon and let you guys know that. Im currently in puerto rico.....bed bound...with a cold and gastroenteritis :( i hope i feel better by tomorrow or else this vacation will not feel as one lol. Bye guys. Got to get some rest :)

Hi Gaby! Sorry to hear your sick during vacation bummer :sorry: hope you start feeling better soon! Maybe you can salvage what's left of spring break!

As far as application reviews go I hope you're right and we hear something soon. Though I'm starting to think we won't hear anything till end of March like last years applicants. I think I read somewhere that the seats at broward for the PTA program is very limited. They're loss is our gain for the RN program! glad u got over your fear and decided to apply for RN!

Sick on Vaca í ½í¸¨.

I hope you feel better soon !!!
