Broward College Nursing May 2015

Hi everyone I didn't see one made yet so I guess this will be the official thread for BC May 2015!

I need advice from all of you lovely people :]

As of now, these are my two options for taking chemistry and microbiology.

1. Take chemistry for the whole winter term along with its lab just because I don't want to worry about the lab being an issue fro my BSN down the road. Finish chemistry and apply for the May term. I was told we would get either Summer 1 (or A) or summer 2(b) I don't know what they're called....off. So I would take microbiology and its lab in the summer term that is given off to me.

2. I can take chemistry lecture fast track on winter session 2, and microbiology and its lab fast track on winter session 4. The lab for chemistry will unfortunately run the whole winter term, so it will run into the microbiology lab.

Points to consider: I took anatomy 1 & 2 during the summer terms at FAU. Both classes were 5 weeks each. I got A's in both the lectures, and both the labs.

I know some of you will say, why don't I just apply for the august term.....reason is: I have loans. If I drop below 6 credits (which I have already), and don't attend school with more than 6 credits in the next couple of months, I will have to start repaying that money, something I cannot afford right now or anytime soon.

Please, let me know what you guys think. I am torn between the two I cannot make a decision and I must act quickly to ensure I will get a seat.

See above post. You don't get a break your first year. You get it the May-mid JuLy after.

I was told I needed to get microbiology done prior to alterations. Would this be the case if I took it the following summer?

Before alterations II. Ortho/neuro. You would have the labs run into clinical. Happened to me. You also would need permission and a letter from the science instructor to the nursing department so they are aware of the schedule. My clinical was on lab midterm day. Had issues with that. They'll try to work with you since it's required for graduation, but it's not a guarantee.

Okay, so seeing as how difficult that would be, would you recommend me to take fast track chem and micro? I think I will do that, i don't want more stress on top of stress. I think I can handle it

If you're sure you can handle chem AND micro with lecture, then go for it. I think it's best to do things right, not fast. Micro with lab in and of itself was hell for me, adding chem to that is risky.

Well, I have insight into micro, i just dropped it because I wasn't doing too well with a student teacher we had for lab and decided to change my major altogether..then changed it back to nursing. I know micro is hard, but the only two things that would run into each other would be the lab for chemistry and the micro let with lab. I wouldn't take both subjects together, its just half half pretty much

Which campus? Also, chem is a prerequisite for micro, not a corequisite. You'd need to pass one before registering for the other.

I took micro at FAU on glades. I am aware of that prerequisite. I know this is a bit confusing lol.

I was told there is a fast track for chemistry that runs from january to march, and then there is a fast track for micro which runs fro march to may. So I basically would take both within the winter term. Sorry, I shouldve clarified that.

If you took it already, then why are you retaking it? The registrar won't allow it normally. It would have to be overridden.

I dropped it because I wasn't doing too well in the lab. Labs at FAU are taught by students trying to get their master's. So even though I know about micro, I didn't get the credit hence why I need to take it at BC. At fau chemistry was not a prereq for Micro, so I didn't take that either

Ok. So since you dropped it, you didn't get credit for it right? BC requires it to be a passing grade before registering for chem. Either you take one, then register for the other, or see if they'll override it.
