Broward college Nursing Jan 2015

Published

Hello, this is a thread for any current nursing students at Broward college or those who have recently been accepted. I'm a bit confused on Broward's admission criteria. What classes exactly do they use to calculate the gpa?

I also decided to drop out of the program. It is a fair program, but you need to be more than prepared mentally and physically. Know how to be very flexible fast. It's not for everyone. I am selling some books, supplies, and uniform. Feel free to contact me and I will send you my email or phone number for details or if you have any questions. I'm pretty objective about giving advice and help. I hope to get some money back, I'll be selling at a discount.

Good luck everyone who decides to apply and stay.

Can you tell me the reason why you stopped? :/ if you don't mind of course.

I stopped more due to a personal reason, but I can at least say from the perspective of someone who got a general sense of what the program is about - it is fair as long as you stay very committed and focused. Completing the program would be a great accomplishment to be proud of.

As for books, Fundamental Success is recommended but something you should get as a supplement to reading that lovely Perry and Potter Fundamentals textbook which comes with a study guide (very useful). The Strategies, Techniques, and Approaches to Thinking by Castillo is used for homework - try completing it with answers on a separate notebook so you can change answers later on and still review when you turn it in. I recommend to start with these. Review health core skills, go through the procedure, practice if you can blood pressure, etc. and watch videos. You can go over math also Dosage Calculations: A Ratio and Proportion Approach if you want. There are other books but better to start reading all the important chapters in the Potter book. It's a lot of information - a year head start of reading through that would be smart.

Start practicing in the skills lab as soon as it's open when you start the program by the way, whenever it is open. If you really think you can do this, don't give up! It is stressful but rewarding. I just wasn't right for it, and feel a lot better weighing my other options of pursuing something besides nursing which is great but it isn't for everyone you know? :)

Thank you so much!! :D this helps me get a head start :D

Thanks so much! That's such a big help, if I start in May I'll definitely start on some reading. So we should start reading the Fundementals and potters first chapters..?

Thanks again ❤️

Were these books the ones that came from the syllabus? For nursing process 1 and 2? I just saw them on amazon and i am thinking of renting them ;) Sorry I am asking I am just wanting a head start so I am not lost. LOL

Yes they were listed on the orientation packet/syllabus unless they update the editions or change them later on. I heard that you should buy the Perry Potter book and keep it because you need it to review for NCLEX. Or just take really good notes I guess if you don't want to buy the book :)

Start reading chapters in the last few units definitely Infection Prevention and Control, Hygiene, Patient Safety, Health Assessment and Physical Examination, and Vital Signs. I'm not sure what other chapters are very important as those, but good to start there. I read well but it took a few long hours to just get through one chapter so pace yourself and read to understand not memorize. Just memorize what's needed like lab values you'll learn later, but answer the questions at the end of the chapter and the supplemental Fundamental Success book it helps process a general idea of the most important material better. I heard the Evolve website helps, too.

Is there anyone that could start explaining the dosage math with like a practice problem.. I know this is a tad early for me for possible starting in May.. But was wondering if any Jan Nurses have been through the math explanation yet.

I'm just so worried about the math being my downfall :(

Thanks all, you have been quite the help ☺️

Thank you so much! :)

You will take a math class and they will teach you. Don't panic.

Just a basic example. .. mark takes 200mg of drug X q6h The drug is available in 100mg capsules . How many capsules does he take per dose? How many per day?
