Broward college Nursing Jan 2015

Published

Hello, this is a thread for any current nursing students at Broward college or those who have recently been accepted. I'm a bit confused on Broward's admission criteria. What classes exactly do they use to calculate the gpa?

Hello everyone,

I just finished reading this thread and I just want to say good luck to you all. I am currently about to begin OB in January at North campus and am excited at the fact that I am almost halfway done with the program! It is definitely a challenge, and will be difficult but it is so worth it. Your social life will have to be put on hold, but do not let that discourage you. Your true friends will understand and stick by you regardless, and like I said before.. just know that it is temporary. You will be able to get back to your friends and family eventually, but if you want to become a nurse sacrifices must be made.

My advice to you would be to read ahead.. always read, with whatever free time you have. Do hundreds of practice questions. Even if you haven't started a particular chapter, do questions on it! Most NCLEX books come with an answer key and rationales. Read the rationales, this will help you form a better understanding of the topic you are about to cover. Look for key words, and remember them. When you are reading, you will be able to pick up on these things and know what to focus on. Re-write your powerpoint notes. Take notes on the chapters. Do the questions at the end of each chapter. I can't stress enough to do questions! These will help immensely when preparing for exams and ultimately, for the NCLEX.

You will hear plenty of horror stories, but if you take the time to notice they almost always come from people who fail out of the program. Hmmm I wonder why? I started in May, which was crazy intense with only 6 weeks for Process I and II, Math, and Pharmacology but I am still standing and haven't had to retrack. I keep my head down, do what I am supposed to do, and study my behind off. Put in the work, and you will do just fine. For those of you going to North campus, the dean is incredibly nice and will help you with whatever you need. All professors want you to succeed, but you need to put forth the effort. It is true that you can fail by one point, so study study study...

Thanks for the advice!!

I'll be attending North campus in January, would you be able to tell me which chapters I should start reading in the Fundamentals book?

Got all my books :) Will we need our nursing kit now or for Process 2???

Hope we get our syllabi soon, I need to start planning :banghead: gonna start looking through the Vital Signs, Patient Safety, Hygiene and Health Assessment chapters first; saw them mentioned in an old thread (I think from 2012) hope much hasn't changed since then lol. I wish someone would tell us exactly which chapters to start with instead of just saying we should start reading (be more specific please:rolleyes:).

Nelly_XoX Did you buy all the books that were on the list?

Yes, I bought all the required books and some recommended.. Call me crazy lol but I will be utilizing every resource I have handy while in the program AND for the NCLEX!!

I didn't get the kit yet, not sure if we need it for Process 1, do you know?

2 week notice is in, my last day at work is December 31st!!!

:roflmao: ish just got REAL!! lol..

I thought I was the only one that got all of them. lol And from what I have heard you need the Kit in process II. What other supplies have you gotten?

I have my uniforms and a temporary stethoscope (I plan on getting a Littmann).

Haven't found my shoes or bag yet and not sure what else we'll need.

I got a Littmann it's awesome. I got a penlight and ID holder. I need to find shoes.

Ok I will be checking Amazon for a penlight. I'm debating if I should get a bag with wheels (too nerdy?? lol).

And I think I'll be asking for nursing shoes this Christmas!!

Lol I am thinking about getting one cause these books are pretty heavy.

Do you know any good brands?
