Broward college May 2012

Published

Hi I would like to apply for the generic May 2012 entry nursing program at Broward college. Any one else looking into applying for this program. Let's help each other out in this process. I know it's a bit early but I'm excited !!!:)

I can only speak for myself, but if I don't get accepted I will reapply for the Fall term because they accept more applicants for August and January programs due to all 3 campuses accepting students. My biggest concern regarding the possibility of not being accepted for May is the space available for the summer. Of course I could do better when it comes to my gpa because I don't have a 4.0, but I don't think my grades are going to prevent me from EVER being accepted.

Not sure on the whole retaking classes thing unless you failed a course and retake it under the grade forgiveness policy. There is a lot of talk on some of the BC forums here regarding retaking courses to improve their points and some people say you would have to go to a private school to retake this or that...again not sure how true any of that is.

As far as other schools go... I am applying to Nova before their deadline on April 1st. It's a lot of money, but it's my only realistic back-up option. FAU applicants that are accepted have an average prereq gpa of 3.8 (which I do NOT have) and FIU is a little too far for me. I guess there is Miami-Dade, but I rather not. Of course I really don't want to spend a ton of money on a private college, but at the same time I can't wait around only applying to 1 school so wherever I am meant to attend is where I will attend!!!

As soon as I find out I'm saying bye bye to this job smh. LOL If I don't get in May I will apply again for August at Dade and Browardand then take some vocational classes at Dade or Broward like phlebotomy, pharmacy tech etc and probably do some volunteer hours at hospitals just to get accustomed to the environment and putting in work. My mom, who is a nurse, told me that as a new nurse people will hate on you constantly especially when it comes to things that involve turn aroundtime, patient care and efficent. So volunteer is usually a good way to gain experience because people are more prone to teach you the tricks of the trade as well as providing a visual for the material you will eventually see in class. :nurse:

I completely agree Joeane! I currently volunteer at Joe D. Hospital on the PICU unit and I have gained a lot of exposure to things that I could of never imagined. The RN's there are phenomenal and I have SO much respect for them. I am very fortunate to have met a bunch of nurses who are very welcoming to me by answering all my questions and always being so appreciative of the things I do to help them and the patients. It's such a rewarding experience to volunteer and I hope to become a Memorial PICU RN one day!!!

hope2bpicurn, i feel yah. i really would like to apply to fau if i could but my pre req gpa is 3.46 because of my a&p 1 class which i got a c in. it was a hard semester for me because i was going through some personal issues at the time and my grades suffered because of it. if i would of gotten an a like most of my other classes i would of came out with a 3.7.

my hesi test score is 92% overall which is good, but i'm pretty sure they look at points first. so let's say someone has 11 points and an overall hesi score of 82% and i have 10 points with 92% hesi score, they will pick the person with 11 points.[/url]

I wish we knew what the time frame of day things would be posted... i hate checking every five minutes from early morning til evening lol

Uh when does the program start exactly LOL

@ Qbanways - I have a very similar story to yours regarding my gpa & I was actually at FAU last summer but left because I knew I had a better chance at Broward. @ Joeane - I believe it's May 7th that the program starts because when I spoke to the Health Admissions advisor a couple of weeks ago I asked by saying " Oh I know this semester ends May 2nd, when would I start if I got accepted? (thinking I had a 2 week vacay) She said " May 7th!" I almost fell out my chair. She said sorry... Not much of a break for you....lol. @ Lovelyb - I wish I knew too!!!

I believe they have up to 30 days but they usually inform u sooner.

Hey bobbi919,

What happen with your status for the January 2012? Did you defer your seat?

No I needed a higher score on HESI A&P section. So I retook it and got a 92.

That's good...I noticed that the acceptance process with BC is very unpredictable. I hope you get in this time around.

Ugh... Still no changes!

They really are seeming like they are going to use all 30 days smh:icon_roll
