Broward College January 2011

Published

New thread started for all those applying for / accepted to / attending Broward College January 2011. Chime in, let us know how you're doing!

What do you mean by points?

Specializes in ED.

You are assigned points based on your prereq GPA. 4.0 is 16 pts, 3.9 is 15 pts, 3.8 is 14 pts, etc. etc. (By the way, your GPA is not rounded up, its rounded down. For example, if you have a 3.48 GPA, it is considered 3.4 not 3.5)

You get 5 pts for HOSA if you were a part of it, and 1 pt for being a Broward resident if you are one. Max number of pts is 22. When I applied, anything over 9 pts and that person was basically in. People with 8 pts were alternates but even they ended up getting accepted because they accepted all alternates at my orientation. That was last year. Not sure how it is now.

I had a 3.86 GPA and got 15 points, so for me, they rounded up... (16 pts total)

Specializes in ED.

Hmmm, they wouldn't for me and I even asked how they do it when I turned my application in. Maybe they changed from last year.

Oh okay. So a 3.5 is 11, which is what I have, 12 in total bc I'm a broward resident. Thank you so much btw! This is all so new to me and you've really helped me understand all the little things I didn't know :)

GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE!!

Hi Everyone! I am applying for Jan 2011, and I have a question for all of you who have successfully gotten a WAIVER for the HCP (health career core) 75 contact hours WITHOUT HOSA. I have worked for a doctor the last year and 1/2 and volunteered for Hospice for 4 years and I got letters specifying my duties of patient care and my letters were not accepted for a waiver. The doctor I worked for said he was willing to rewrite my letter if there were specific things that they needed and if I did them at his offfice.

HELP! thanks!

Hi intransition...I was able to get a waiver but only because I have a license as an EMT. I was told that was the only way with a license of some sort but keep asking and trying maybe there is another way. Good luck!

We cant record at South .

As far as campus goes i would choose the campus that is closest to you, you will have to be at school at 7am some days . Tardiness is a BIG No NO !!!

Hmm I hope we can record at Central-I want that Livescribe

I just started this Aug Nur process 1 at central and they do not let u record lectures at all, the only exception is if they add a lecture day to catch up and someone is going to miss it then u are aloud to record for that person.

hey guys, i know you are all still wondering about the pre-admissions session. i finally got some kind of a straight answer from the dean, so I'm thinking its pretty reliable information... here's the email i received:

The deadline for submitting applications for January admissions is September the 15th. Confirmation for all other applicants other than deferred students from August applications are reviewed after the application deadline of September 15th. The timeframe stated for the notification on the BC Health Science Website for acceptance and Pre-Admission Orientation notification is 30 days. Therefore no later than 30 days after September the 15th would students be informed.

Hope this is helpful.

Sincerely,

Bonnie Dones

Ok. I figured we wouldnt get an email in August. SO i guess our orientation will be end of Sep early Oct. Can't wait!

Thanks for posting the email.
