Brookhaven Nursing Program 2012 Class

Published

Hello everyone, I would like to know who's applying to Brookhaven this fall for their Spring 2012 class, if so how many with how many points? I will be taking my last support course this summer, which is my elective (PHIL 1304). I am so excited, upon completion of this course I will have 32.39 points. I can't tell how nervous I am, I hope this is enough. Any advice from previous or current nursing program is welcomed.

Nope. I bought all my books used and some of them, I didn't even end up using. What list did they give you? I wonder if they are the same as ours.

Specializes in Cardiac Critical Care.

Escape - I got the list from the bookstore and a coupon for the book pack (also has the authors listed, which the list on Majors doesn't). I can email it to you if you want!

Sophie - thanks for the encouragement!! People had me a little worried about even working part time, but now I feel like I can definitely do it. What were your work hours like?

Yes, I made it through working. HOWEVER! I got absolutely no sleep during the first two semesters. I managed to work full time nights at a hospital while hustling it to class right after work. The only nights I did not work were the nights before a clinical. Third semester is a little rough because you're "squeezing" in your specialties so it's even more fast paced...but it's do-able. I don't necessarily recommend it, but do what you have to do.

Let me elaborate on the books: I couldn't buy them because the $600 pack was too much for me. Some of my buddies did. I can't speak for them, but I did not have a problem making it through without the Ebooks. I prefer real books myself, but if you like Ebooks, go for it. You'd get both the books and the online versions. I'll be honest, some of my books I did not use. I never had a Mosby's medical dictionary. I rarely used my Pagana Diagnostics/Lab because I used my med surg book as reference...My med surg book, fundamentals, and drug book took a real beating. I say the Med surg book is the most used book, at least for me. Your peds and OB book you won't need until third semester. If the list is the same as ours, then go to half price books and check for them. A friend of mine got her Kozier's for $17 at Half Price books. Be smart about your money. Don't let those Majors folks talk you out of your hard earned $600.

Oh! And I also used some of the older editions of the books. My med surg book, my peds book...the previous edition. My peds book was the previous edition and I paid $2 for it on Half.com. Don't feel like you have to run and get the newest $100 edition (unless the instructor specifies, but for us, they never did). Sometimes, there is very little to no difference between, say, the 7th and 8th editions...I literally went online and compared the table of contents on the older and the newer editions of my books on amazon...and I just went with what I could afford. If any of you want to buy some of our books, let me know. I have a friend of mine who wants to sell hers. I can sell some of mine, too. If you got $20, you got yourself a book!

Sophiebee,

they haven't sent a list by email yet, but there is one up at Majors, and the bookstore released pricing on the bundle. I've been double and triple checking my email everyday for any updates especially about the scrubs I am anxiously waiting to go buy those :)

Sophiebee,

I just sent you a private message about the books.

Sophiebee,

I can't send private messages (too new on the board) but I'm interested, too!

rhiannasmom

sugarmag...send me a message with your email and number. Apparently this web site wants to squeeze some money out of me to send you a private message :D

I'm frugal (most students are...or at least should be).

Escape has my email. I let her know to send you both my email :)

Hey everyone. I just joined allnurses. I got into the program for Spring 2012! I am so excited to be starting.

I have a quick question....where did you guys see the requirement for the white shoes? and get the colors for the scrubs. I have been waiting for that info from AC, but it looks like everyone else already knows. Did I miss something?
