Hey everyone,

I just wanted to get a thread started for all of the BHC/MVC students; please help me get a support system going here. I am starting at BHC in Jan. 07 and would love to make contact with the other new students. It would also be great if the current students would join in too, maybe share some advise;) /horror stories.:uhoh21: I'm sure that you current students have a lot to say.

El Centro/Northlake has a couple of really good threads going, but it would sure be great to talk with those I will be going to school with too.

Good Luck to everyone!

Hello everyone! First let me say congrats on getting into the program. You will not find a group of more supportive and understanding nursing instructors anywhere. I have been in the nursing program since fall 06 (graduate in December). A few words of advice. Don't stress about the reading too much. You do not have to comprehend every single word. Secondly, get yourself a good NCLEX review book. I suggest Saunders as it comes with a CD that you can pop in your computer and do thousands of practice questions. While they are not exactly the same questions the teachers will be using, they are very similar. A big part of nursing is learning how to be a good test taker. Also, don't worry about what they say about working full time. I have been doing this since the beginning and I still have a high GPA! remember, only you know what you are truly capable of. If you have any questions PM or email me and I will be glad to offer advice!

I'm so glad to see that the BHC Nursing students are on here. I'm still working on my core classes. I'll be completly done with all of them by next fall ('08) and look foward to nursing school. I really want to go to Brookhaven, so I will do my best to do well on my HESI and study hard.

Good luck to all of you starting out! I look forward to reading about your journies!

Hey everyone...it's Robin Mowery. I FINALLY found this thing. Gosh. Anyways, just wanted to introduce myself to the group. Now that we have all know eachother for like 7 months now. hahah. feel free to add me to your buddy lists and be sure to tell me who you are. I dont recognize you by your screen name thingy.

By the way--thanks Josh for the great advice. I think I met you once when we were both studying at the library for like HOURS. Ok....Hi everyone and bye everyone. I am going to bed. I cannot believe we are off to clinicals in like a couple of weeks. EEEEEEK! too cool.

Welcome to the thread Jo-Jo. Congrats on almost being done with your pre-reqs, that is a huge accomplishment in and of itself! Remember, the more courses you have done the better. Don't sweat the HESI, it is not that bad. Just be sure to go to the library and check out the study guide. It is very much worth it. If you have any questions, let me know.

Oh, and I forgot to welcome Robin too. Glad to hear from you. Where do you have clinicals at?

Thanks Joshuaha!! I finished all of prereqs last Fall and am just finishing up the rest of the Core classes now. I will everything done but Spanish for Nursing when I apply in the Fall of 08. I figure the more core classes completed the better off I will be (assuming I do well on my HESI). I only ended up with a 3.25 in the prereqs, so hopefully the completion of the core classes will give me the points I need.

The group that started in the Spring....did most or all of you get in on your first try? Do you know what your overall points were that got you in? Just curious.

Thanks again everyone!! I'm sure you all are getting ready to start Semester 2, so good luck!! I'll be in Micro on Mon and Wed evenings.

Welcome to the board Jo-jo and Robin. This is Kaley. This a great resourse for advice on just about anything nursing!

Jo-jo, I got in on my second try. The first time I think I had like 23 points, and I didn't have as many support classes as you. You should be fine! The second time I had 31, but I know some got in with 23 or less. I guess every time is different. It all depends on how many apply. It's a big plus to have the support classes done, so congrats and good luck!

Oh, and I forgot to welcome Robin too. Glad to hear from you. Where do you have clinicals at?

My clinicals for the summer will be at Baylor Specialty downtown. Some of my classmates at are Richarson Regional + Medical City Dallas. How is your semester going?

Specializes in Peds Rehab, Informatics.

Baylor Speciality eh? That is a new one. We got to go to Medical Center Plano, Baylor Irving, and St. Paul for first semester. The only time we went to Richardson Regional was for psych. This semester is going pretty well. OB was a tough class for me, mostly becuase it is so much info compressed into such a small amount of time! On Monday we start PEDS! Yes, I can't wait. I want to specialize in Peds so it will hopefully be right up my alley. Aren't you guys just loving Mrs. Routh?! She has been my favorite teacher so far. Keep working hard guys, you are doing great! :yeah:

Yeah, there are 2 groups of us going to Baylor Speciality, myself included. I hear it's a great hospital to learn at.

So is Mrs. Adair going to be teaching Peds as well? We had her last semester and she was great. I'm loving Mrs. Routh's lecture too. You know, last week we were talking about Nutrition and she mentioned you Josh, and something you had taught her about nutrition, though I forget now what it was. :D

That is so funny that she remembers that. Was it about the evils of trans fat?!!!! She always thought it was so funny when I would get on my pedistal and preach about that stuff. Ahh memories. I am so sad to see that she won't be available for my preceptorship fourth semester :uhoh21:. To answer your other question, Mrs. Adair only teaches OB. Pedi will be taught by Mrs. Wilson. Lecture is once a week for 8 hours! Yuck! Thankfully, it is only four lectures, but still it is a long time! Ttyl!
