Brookhaven College Nursing Program Fall 2014

Published

Hi everyone, I haven't seen any thread about BHC Fall '14 so I made one! I am applying this February at Brookhaven community college for Fall 2014. I took Hesi last year for trial and I will be taking the Hesi for real again this February and I have been studying really hard this Winter break! Goodluck everyone, if I do not get accepted I have plan B which to go ahead and try to apply in UTA.

Almost finished in all precourses needed just Micro and death dying this Spring but they are not counted this application so I am hoping to do well in Hesi!

Clinical days change, and so does your hospital assignment.

Hi All! I've been following this thread off and on since mydreamistofly (sorry you didn't get in this time, but you will next time!) started it back in January. I'll be starting in Fall and am not exactly freaking out, but I'm pretty damn nervous. And I got questions.

1. OK, so I got an email from Evolve saying Mark Meyer enrolled me in a course in the Evolve Learning System, but when I checked my Evolve account, there's nothing there about it. Anyone have this same issue?

2. Someone on here said old editions of textbooks are fine, but when I spoke with Nancy Summers today she said that I will need the latest editions. Can anyone else comment on this?

3. Am I correct, but it looks like we have a total of 9 credits for the whole Fall semester? 1 credit for Nursing Skills Lab, 4 credits for Foundation, and 4 for clinicals. Is that it? I feel like I'm missing something.

4. Finally, anyone have an idea of which hospitals we will likely be doing our clinicals at? Hopefully, not in any nursing homes, right?

Just so you know - the listed credit hours for nursing isn't exactly what it sounds like ;) which is why they consider the programs "full time" when though the hours don't show 12+

Trust me. It's full time.

Hi everyone! I'm just popping in to say hello. I'll be 3rd semester when you guys start. I'd be happy to answer any questions (I know I had a ton)! Congrats to all of you :)

Bcecil.....you're back?! Yippee! !!!!

Hi Natalie, I got a question. Are older editions of textbooks fine?

Also, how many credits did you take first semester? Every semester after that?

I just bought my 1st semester Nursing books, and these are the books included:

Physical Examination & Health Assessment

Nursing Care Planning Guides

Mosby's Dictionary

Mosby's Manual of Diagnostic and Laboratory Tests

Med-Surgical Nursing

Are we supposed to have a Foundations book too? Because in this packet, it's not included.

CaseyB7, who gave you the list of books we needed?

I'm back. :-) /hugs

I haven't gotten an email yet from Dr. Meyer. Submitted all my paperwork yesterday (photocopy of TX DL, Immunizations etc). I think older texts by the same author should be perfectly fine. I'm planning on re-using mine for sure. On paper it appears that it's part time, but I can assure you it's full time. Very intense. Especially once clinicals begin.

The 3 hospitals that we will be doing our clinicals at are:

Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas

Medical Center of Plano

Dallas Medical Center

The foundations text I'm going to be using is Kozier & ERB's Fundamentals of Nursing [Concepts, Process, and Practice] 9th Edition ISBN-10: 0-13-802461-8

Glad to hear older editions are ok. I hope I get the one hospital in plano since I live in Plano. I still don't get how one day a week of clinicals makes things intense.
