Bridging Program in Australia

Published

Hi. I am new here. I don't know exactly where to go. I am a registered nurse here in the Philippines and I am interested in studying in Australia for a bridging course that will help me become a registered nurse there. I need some help on looking for a good school that offers a bridging course.

My aunt told me that a friend of her friend just went to AU to take up a test and in 6 months she's there for a bridging program. and I have this friend who has a friend who became a registered nurse in AU in 6 months time too. This agency is offering me to study for a certificate III aged care with occupational English test for 46 weeks in Einstein College but it costs too much. So now, I am trying to look for a school wherein I can apply by myself and hopefully get in. I am hoping I could leave for AU this June 2011. I am a bit lost on what to do. Can you help me, please? Any suggestions? ? Please help me. Thank you very much. :clown:

(Sydney area would be better since my parents are more familiar and in favor of that place... though other cities/areas will be great too)

Hi guys. I'm a nurse from the Philippines. I just wanna ask a quick question. If I am to start in March gathering and processing my papers for bridging, how soon can I leave? Thanks. My IELTS will expire on January 2018 and I just want to make sure I'll be able to use it

I think it is fairly safe to say 6 months would be the average timeline. You should get started with your application ASAP.

Hi nurseHD,

AHPRA will look at cases individually.

What may constitute as a criminal liability in other countries may not necessarily be considered as a 'criminal offense' in Australia (i.e. leaving your job before your contract ends). So even though AHPRA will ask for a police clearance from all countries of recent residency, and your KSA police clearance may in fact reflect the fact that you did not return to your job, AHPRA may look at this and consider the issue moot. Or they may ask for more information and ask you for an explanation.

Either way, you will have to go through the registration process to find out if your 'criminal history' has at all any bearing in Australia.

Thank you for your reply vyecheverria, BSN. I am now gathering the documents i need for ahpra. I am hoping for the best that everything will go smoothly.

Hi, Im fairly new here.

I just submitted my application for nursing bridging program using AGOS-40. Anyone of you who had experience working while studying the nursing bridging program for 3 mos?

Thanks! Did you mean 6 mos until I get my eligibility letter from AHPRA or is it 6 mos until I am able to leave for bridging? I am planning to take the course at IHNA

Are you in Australia on a visa that has work rights?

Normally, overseas students apply for a visitor visa to study the bridging program as it is allowed on that visa but it does not allow you to work.

6 months from when you apply to studu at IHNA to when you get your visa. That is of course a variable timeline and is dependent on numerous factors.

I would like to ask if AHPRA has an e-mail? Im working here in UAE and it seems the Certificate of Good Standing here can only be sent thru e-mail. Is it possible if I could just sent the COGS along with my AGOS 40 form? I am trying to search their email on their website but its not there it seems

I too am from UAE and was able to obtain the COGS from haad twice, pre and post bp. It is indeed sent thru email, you just have to go to Haad and ask for the envelope. You can send it by your own.

I would say 3-4 months based on my experience, and this was from Nov. 2015. I started gathering my docs from Nov 23, submitted them on Dec 17, 2015. Got the refusal letter/LOE on the 9th of January. Arrange yourself the necessary health examination prior to lodging a visa application. It took 5 days for me to get the visa grant notice.

Do consider the time that your willing to spend on these things as it is brutal but not impossible. I am working in the UAE and had to go back to PH just to go to PRC and request for COGS. COGS from UAE is another thing. Immunizations if you don't have them is quite lengthy as you cannot take them all at one time.

newbie here. this thread is really helpful. :)

I want to ask any feedbacks if those who finished bridging program got their job already? how was it?

do we really need to have permanent resident visa first before we are entitled to work as RN?

what are the risks of taking business visa over student visa?

I'd say its fairly easy to look for an RN job both aged care and acute care setting. Especially if you have the experience working in special areas. I did my BP from Sept - Nov last year and was already offered a job on the 2nd week of BP. (Yes, you can start looking for a job 2 weeks while in your BP, just mention in your resume that you are currently taking the program). Most of us also were offered an RN position from our clinical placement in QLD. If you really have the skills, experience and credentials, you can even be offered a Clinical nurse position depending on how your interview goes. Regionals offer sponsorships (457 visa) quite often as compared to the major cities (I bet you already know this). It's really up to you to decide on this considering the environment, economy, cost of living and what not.

PR status of course, grants you certain privileges one cannot obtain thru sponsorships. Like choosing your own state, working in government health institues/hospitals, being eligible for medicare etc. Ultimately, you don't have to be on a PR status to be eligible to work as an RN in Australia. You only have to be registered. Got my registration from AHPRA 8 days after completing the BP. You just have to push hard and push fast! ;)

Good luck!

How is it possible to apply for work during the bridging program considering that the visa used is business visa? I thought that once you have business visa, you are not allowed to work. Given the case, after the bridging program, i will

go back in PH while processing the permanent visa. Once PR is approved, only by that time i can apply for RN position.

Im confused. í ½í¸…

Many thanks for the response. í ½í¸
