Hi. I am new here. I don't know exactly where to go. I am a registered nurse here in the Philippines and I am interested in studying in Australia for a bridging course that will help me become a registered nurse there. I need some help on looking for a good school that offers a bridging course.
My aunt told me that a friend of her friend just went to AU to take up a test and in 6 months she's there for a bridging program. and I have this friend who has a friend who became a registered nurse in AU in 6 months time too. This agency is offering me to study for a certificate III aged care with occupational English test for 46 weeks in Einstein College but it costs too much. So now, I am trying to look for a school wherein I can apply by myself and hopefully get in. I am hoping I could leave for AU this June 2011. I am a bit lost on what to do. Can you help me, please? Any suggestions? ? Please help me. Thank you very much.
(Sydney area would be better since my parents are more familiar and in favor of that place... though other cities/areas will be great too)
great to be back here :)
Just got my Permanent resident visa. mind you guys..have waited for almost a year just to get this visa. ANMAC has the longest waiting time to process things.. Ok, let's face reality..as of the moment, it' really hard to look for a nursing job in Aussie that could possibly offer you sponsorship. There are a "few" health institutions that offer sponsorship, but it's not that easy. I had completed my nursing bridging course last year (yes, that's right..almost a year ago), but up until now, haven't got any job yet. I had forwarded my application to almost a hundred institutions and health facilities across Australia, but failed to get sponsorship for a nursing job. I had 4 years of hospital (tertiary) experience in a medical-surgical unit. Well, I guess, it would have been easier for me to get sponsorship if I had clinical experience in specialty areas (e.g ICU, CCU, OR, ED, etc). This is not to discourage you, but just to lay the facts based on experience ("evidence-based" as what we call it..haha). However, to keep things cool, some of my classmates in the bridging school where able to get sponsorship (after so many months of waiting), so we should always cling on faith :)
In this matter, I think that getting a loaned money just to finance your nursing bridging course would never be a wise move. Hmm..with regard to the school for the bridging course, I think ACN (Australian College of Nursing in Sydney) still offers the cheapest (AUD$10,000). So there you go..
If you have any questions, feel free to email me at [email protected]
..very much willing to help and answer your queries in any way that I can. goodluck! :)
hi. rejai11. i took my bridging course at ACN..so easy to acquire a slot for the placement (no interviews, no exams), but too many requirements (especially with regard to immunisation).lol
i know right,so can u tell me what vaccines or test did you do? i'm planning to go ACN as well by march. Application should be mailed to them or i just cam email them with the requirements?
I'm sorry rejai11, I'm unable to send a reply to your private message. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post any website link here, but you can try to search ACN's website on any search engine. or search this up: Entry Program for Internationally Qualified Nurses (EPIQ). This is ACN's bridging program. you can just send your application for the placement by email. for the vaccination/immunisation:
>diphtheria, tetorifice, pertusis (dTPA) vaccine (1 dose)
>Hep-B vaccination (including titres for anti-HBs)
>MMR vaccine (2 doses, 1 month apart)
>Varicella vaccine (2 doses, 1 month apart)
>TST (PPD test as what we call it)
*for MMR and varicella, if you are able to provide evidence (e.g. result of titres) that you have positive igG for mumps, measles, rubella, and chickenpox, those will suffice for the vaccinations. for a more detailed info just follow the links on ACN's website :)

thanks.. how's acn's clinical placement by the way?
When I took up my bridging course at ACN, it was still called the Assessment of Competence Program, but they've revised the name to EPIQ as what I've posted on my previous message. We had it for 8 weeks (4 weeks didactic/ 4 weeks clinical exposure). So, I'm not sure if they have also revised everything (e.g. duration of the course, course content, etc) on their new bridging program. We only had 1 written exam and 1 return demo..everything had been assessed and evaluated (e .g. nursing knowledge, skills, adaptation to the Australian nursing context, communication, etc) during the 4 weeks clinical exposure. If you had many years of previous clinical (esp. hospital) experience, you will find the bridging program easy
