Sobering Covid-19 news from Brazil
ABC News: 3/27/2021
As daily deaths near 4,000, worst may lie ahead for Brazil
Quote Brazil currently accounts for one-quarter of the entire world’s daily COVID-19 deaths, far more than any other single nation, and health experts are warning the nation is on the verge of even greater calamity. The nation’s seven-day average of 2,400 deaths stands to reach to 3,000 within weeks, six experts told the Associated Press. That’s nearly the worst level seen by the U.S., though Brazil has two-thirds its population. Spikes of daily deaths could soon hit 4,000; on Friday there were 3,650. Having glimpsed the abyss, there is growing recognition shutdowns are no longer avoidable -- not just among experts, but also many mayors and governors. Restrictions on activity they implemented last year were half-hearted and consistently sabotaged by President Jair Bolsonaro, who sought to stave off economic doom. He remains unconvinced of any need for clampdown, which leaves local leaders pursuing a patchwork of measures to prevent the death toll from spiraling further. It may be too late, with a more contagious variant rampaging across Brazil. For the first time, new daily cases topped 100,000 on March 25, with many more uncounted. Miguel Nicolelis, professor of Neurobiology at Duke University who advised several Brazilian governors and mayors on pandemic control, anticipates the total death toll reaching 500,000 by July and exceeding that of the U.S. by year-end.. “We have surpassed levels never imagined for a country with a public health care system, a history of efficient immunization campaigns and health workers who are second to none in the world,” Nicolelis said. “The next stage is the health system collapse.” The system is already buckling, with almost all states’ intensive care units near or at capacity. Dr. José Antônio Curiati, a supervisor at Sao Paulo's Hospital das Clinicas, the biggest hospital complex in Latin America, said its beds are full, but patients keep arriving. The city's oxygen supply isn't guaranteed, and stocks of sedatives required for intubation in intensive care units will soon run out...

This is absolutely heartbreaking and the result of toxic ignorance on the part of Bolsonaro. I hope the rest of the world is doing all everyone can for Brasil.
The people of Brazil have held a special place in my heart for a very long time. Boa sorte aos profissionais de saúde e também ao povo do Brasil!(Godspeed to the healthcare workers as well as the people of Brazil!) ?
Brazil has had 4 Health Directors since start of virus outbreak. Bolsonaro, like Trump has dowplayed virus --which he himself caught. only 2% Brazilians vaccinated. ABC World News tonight reported he's softening stance, rapidly buying vaccine doses from other countries. Brazil's public health system has the capacity to administer COVID vaccines.

Operation Warp Speed drove the development of a vaccine in less than one year. By the way, Trump’s critics said it could never be done. So much for downplaying the virus. Trump knew the best way to fight this virus was by vaccinations. I hope Brazil does roll out vaccines at a more rapid rate.

Trump had NOTHING to do with vaccine development.

The director of the National Institute of Health says “the Trump administration deserves credit for developing safe and effective COVID-19 vaccines in breathtaking speed”. Guzman, J. (2021). Fauci’s boss praises Trump for “breathtaking” Operation Warp Speed COVID-19 vaccine development.
“Operation Warp Speed, a Trump administration initiative to manufacture COVID-19 vaccines as fast as possible, should be lauded as a successful endeavor in what has otherwise been a poor effort to deal with the coronavirus, experts say”. “No doubt operation warp speed is a huge success” said Ting Kong Dai, Associate professor of Operation Management and Business Analytics at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. “You can like or hate The Trump Administration but no doubt, it’s a huge success—unprecedented success”.
Anthony Fauci, Director of the US National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, also lauded Operation Warp Speed for being a success, “certainly in the area of vaccines, it has been a success.”
Gollom, M. (2020). Why trumps operation warp speed is credited with helping raise for COVID-19 vaccine.
I could go on and on, certainly it was Trump’s administration that drove the development of the vaccine. Surely you are not so blinded by hatred that you can’t even admit that!

FACT check, Nov 2020:
"TRUMP: “As a result of Operation Warp Speed, Pfizer announced on Monday that its China virus vaccine was more than 90% effective. ...Pfizer said it wasn’t part of Warp Speed, but that turned out to be an unfortunate misrepresentation.”
"THE FACTS: .... Pfizer notably did not accept government money to develop, test or expand manufacturing capacity under Trump’s Operation Warp Speed initiative to quickly find a vaccine and treatments for the disease sweeping the country.
"In fact, Pfizer partnered with the vaccine’s original developer, Germany’s BioNTech, in March and the following month announced the first human study in Germany. The White House announced Operation Warp Speed in May.
Pfizer opted not to join Operation Warp Speed initially but is following the same general requirements for the vaccine’s development as competitors who received government research money. The company says it has risked $2 billion of its own money on vaccine development and won’t get anything from Washington unless the effort is successful.
“Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine development and manufacturing costs have been entirely self-funded,” Pfizer spokeswoman Jerica Pitts said this week. “We decided to self-fund our efforts so we could move as fast as possible.”"

I provided the authors and the names of the articles. You can research from that.
Also all you have to do is Google "Fauci never gave credit to Warp Speed."
That's all I will say about this. I'm just so sick of lies. That time is done. We no longer have a lying pos in the White House.

The article actually credits the Trump administration, specifically the NIH and FDA, not Trump himself for the rapid development of vaccines. Trump's personal role in all of this was that he tried to defund the NIH, not that he supported them, and that our initial and ongoing response was slowed by failing to put the right people in the right roles, he for instance chose the person overseeing our entire vaccine response based on their relationship to his daughter. This is largely blamed for why we fell behind so many other industrialized nations in our response to the pandemic.

Quote Operation Warp Speed(OWS) is an interagency partnership between the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the Department of Defense (DOD) that coordinates federal efforts to accelerate the development, acquisition, and distribution of COVID-19 medical countermeasures. Collaborating HHS components include the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA). OWS is a Trump Administration initiative, and while the Biden Administration has indicated that the interagency response to COVID-19 will continue, it plans to restructure and rename the effort. BARDA is currently supporting six vaccine candidates through funding research and development, funding increases in manufacturing capacity, and/or advance purchase contracts. ... Vaccine development, like drug development,is generally an expensive process that takes 10 or more years. To accelerate development, OWS implemented a number of measures, including supporting increased manufacturing capacity for some of the vaccine candidates while they were still in testing, rather than waiting until testing was complete to scale up production. This investment is considered “at-risk,” in that the federal government is paying to develop or manufacture vaccine candidates that may not prove to be safe or effective. Vaccine candidates that received federal government support for development include Moderna, Janssen Pharmaceuticals, Sanofi/GSK, and Merck/IAVI whereas the Pfizer/BioNTech, Janssen, and Novavax candidates participated in OWS through federal purchase of doses only... The Government Accountability Office has noted difficulties in assessing supply chain transparency for vaccines and ancillary supplies. Shortages of ancillary supplies in particular have been a concern before and throughout the vaccination campaign.Although the Biden Administration has announced efforts to increase the production and acquisition of ancillary supplies—including entering into new contracts and invoking the Defense Production Act—monitoring and addressing potential supply issues may still be of interest to Congress.

It isn't just COVID Vaccine that Brazil needs to obtain but also syringes, alcohol pads, sharps unit, PPE etc. to have successful vaccination program.

Urgent lessons from COVID 19: why the world needs a standing, coordinated system and sustainable financing for global research and development
Quote The research and development (R&D) ecosystem has evolved over the past decade to include pandemic infectious diseases, building on experience from multiple recent outbreaks. Outcomes of this evolution have been particularly evident during the COVID-19 pandemic with accelerated development of vaccines and monoclonal antibodies, as well as novel clinical trial designs. These products were developed, trialled, manufactured, and authorised for use in several countries within a year of the pandemic's onset. Many gaps remain, however, that must be bridged to establish a truly efficient and effective end-to-end R&D preparedness and response ecosystem. Foremost among them is a global financing system. In addition, important changes are required for multiple aspects of enabling sciences and product development. For each of these elements we identify priorities for improved and faster functionality. There will be no better time than now to seriously address these needs, however difficult, as the ravages of COVID-19 continue to accelerate with devastating health, social, and economic consequences for the entire community of nations.
