Brandman University ABSN Program

Published

Hi All,

I'm wondering if any one has heard of Brandman University. They have a new ABSN program in San Diego, CA that i'm looking into. My grades are not competitive but i want to get into my career soon.

Has anyone been to this school, and if so, how did you like it? Do you think I'll be able to land a good job as an RN if I were to apply and attend? I'm nervous, since it is a new program! Such as, what if they end up closing and the degree won't be valid ?

Thanks in advance.

Were you offered a permanent spot in the nursing core before having pre reqs finished? Like is it contingent on you having them completed? I am waiting to hear back if I was accepted but have a few pre req. courses to finish.

@619nurse yes, I was offered a permanent spot. I have all of the required pre-requisites finished except for the ones that can only be taken at Brandman (which are three classes). But, you cannot start the nursing core until all are finished.

Did you transfer in your Micro and STATS from another university/college? If so, did you need to petition any of your courses for equivalency?

@619nurse

Yes, I transferred Micro and Stats from my previous college. I actually transferred every pre-req course over, except for the three courses I mentioned before that can only be taken at Brandman. I didn't have a problem with transferring my courses, therefore I didn't have a need to file a petition. My courses were also taken at a regional college, so I believe that's why they automatically transferred.

Oh okay, I am transferring my National University STAT and micro and they are regionally accepted as well. Can’t tell 100% by looking at the transcript eval if they will.

@619nurse Hopefully they will allow the transfer! I know National is pricy, It would suck to have to retake the courses, especially Micro ?

Which corses are the ones that can only be taken there?

I attended the webinar today for the program and they said you arent accepted into a nursing seat until after the required prereqs are completed. So then do we re apply after the pre reqs are done then get a for sure into the nursing core classes. I am confused at what accepted and offered a seat means then?

I wonder when we could begin taking the “at Brandman U” pre-reqs. I also have all my other pre-reqs completed. Have any of you visited the campus yet?

Hello everyone! I didn't end up applying to Brandman but I thought this information might be helpful.

Those of you who already have a Bachelor's degree in another subject from an accredited university are waived from completing the Brandman specific prerequisites of:

LBSU 302 Information Fluency and Academic Integrity (3)

LBSU 304 Liberal Arts Core Foundations (3)

Faculty/Staff may not be aware of this as many told me this was not possible and that I'd have to retake it. Reference the catalog here, section titled "Second or Additional Bachelor’s Degree at Brandman or Chapman University"
