Good day everyone and hugs:
Per the title, I'm a brand new, Pennsylvania Registered Nurse. My license was activated this past Wednesday, January 18, 2017, and it expires next April 2018.
Thank you!

-You need the full 30 for your renewal + 2 hours of child abuse reporting.
-I have not yet gotten my renewal for April 2017. For my advanced practice license I got my renewal about 6 weeks before expiration.

Can't answer the first question as the CE requirement came around many many years after my first renewal, which was also less than the normal 2 years.
What's the earliest in 2018 that I can renew given an expiration date the end of April 2018?
You should receive notification from the BON- you will need a code from them to be able to complete the renewal. I believe it's about 6-8 weeks prior to the expiration date.
After I renew in 2018, does the renewal switch over to every two years? If yes, will the renewal date be based on April or January?Thank you!
Yes, it will be every two years and will begin two years after your current expiration- so if your license now expires in April it will continue to expire in April.
Thank you both!

You do not need the 30 CEs for the first renewal. You might need the mandatory 2 CE child abuse one though. When I renewed my first time (in 2013), I was told your nursing degree falls within the two years prior to license renewal and counts as your CEs. Your second renewal will be 2 years after your 2018 renewal, April 2020, and you will need to complete 30 CEs from 5/1/2018 to 4/30/2020. If you take any nursing classes (BSN or MSN), they count as CEs as well as long as they are nursing classes.

Regarding CEs required for initial relicensure. For the current requirement, this is a question best directed to the PA BON.
