Hi, I am relatively new to my position as an MDS Coordinator and have a question that desperately needs answered. My facility is stuck in the "dark ages", and no one seems to concerned about B&B programs, but I am! We don't have any! So I am unsure of exactly how to go about creating one. Specifically toilet shcedules. Right now they are just upon rising, before and after meals, before bed, and prn. But that doesn't seem individualized enough. How do you know know what times to set their schedule to....and how do you get the staff to follow through? The biggest c/o that I get is "how do you expect us to memorize 60 some toilet schedules?" Any suggestions on how I can make it work?
Thanks

Honestly, how do you expect the staff to follow an individualized toileting schedule for every resident? I wish I had some ideas, but it's very difficult in practical, real-world terms, esp. with the horrible staffing ratios some facilities have. Good luck with working something out though!

I agree with the above poster. Maybe rather than individualizing, create a bladder training protocol that includes what you already have, plus "toilet Q2 hrs while awake". Each resident on the protocol would need to be toileted every two hours, which can easily be integrated into their existing plan of care.

:yeahthat: When we have a pt that needs B&B we do it q2hrs during waking hours.
