I am RN in Toronto, working for 7 years in inpatient surgical unit. Now I am interested to take Botox and filler injection course to become certified nurse injector. I am not interested in opening my business I am looking for a part time position. when my 1 year old son in day care. I am on my own and I am looking to make extra money on the side while he is busy. I always been interested in beauty and all those injections and aesthetic of the face in general. I do see my self in that job. The only thing that stops me is that you need to work under MD who wants commission, my question is, if I work in medical spa do I still need Doctor? Or the spa already have one and they need just a nurse to inject clients? They offer 34-50$ plus commission. The job is 1-3. Which is perfect for me. What about is it spa provides you or not? Thanks.

You are way too quick to judge someone, who you don't know but it's your right. My right to find out everything that I need to know before I go and take courses. This business is not easy and a lot of unclear parts which I am investigating. It would be much beneficial if you would work in that business but you are not. Thank you for you advise! Just so you know I love my work and I love my patients that I help on daily basis and I am not a sick nurse who runs around to hurt somebody.

While you are investigating the unclear parts, suggest you read CNO disciplinary decisions and watch youtube; 16x9 Worry lines: Botox investigation, it is disturbing to see the lack of transparency and integrity in aesthetic business practices.

You claim to have been practising as a Registered Nurse in Canada for 7 years, and yet you're ignorant of pretty basic legislation. It's astonishing to me that you didn't immediately contact CNO or visit their website for this information (which is easily accessible to anyone).

For your information, I am a cosmetic Nurse injector. I did the medical aesthetics training at an accredited instuition, and I have worked for a plastic surgeon before. So, I do know more about this subject than you do.. But you're quick to assume I don't. Amazing!

It's very clear what you were asking and NO, you are not going to find a shortcut. The law is the law, and the process exists to protect the public.

There are nurses who can't insert an IV, catheter and change dressing and they being nurses for years. I did checked with CNO. I did read policies. I had questions and I am not afraid to ask. I prefer to find out everything before I do something.

I asked the college of physicians in BC and they said you can administer but would still need to be working under a DR. even an LPN can administer as long as they are working with a DR.

"Even an LPN". Wow

"Even an LPN". Wow

Seriously! Meanwhile, the OP (who has very poor knowledge of the law, let alone her own scope/controlled acts) is someone allegeding to be an RN for 7 years... Yet, she didn't know that she needed a Doctor's order to administer medication, and was looking for a loop-hole so she could make quick cash. So ethical :uhoh3: Then, the OP (allegedly a "Registered Nurse") tried to backtrack her comments....But what do we know? We're just dumb diploma Nurses. SMH!

I can't even call you a nurse cause you are not even professional!

At least I am not taking overtime shift after shift to make extra cash as you called it, scrutinizing safety of patients!

Thank to everyone for their input and help!!!

I think this has been answered enough. Closing the thread as we seem to be going round in circles
