Boosting Moral

Published

It seems like our ER goes through cycles of low moral and general bad attitude. We are in one of these now. Lot of staff leaving which makes us very short staffed which makes moral much lower. We have 24 open positions right now! Managers are calling daily begging for help. We are working short everyday. Management will not get there butts in there to help us. It just sucks!

Does your ER go through these kinds of cycles? Any suggestions to pull us out of this funk quiker?

As far as the "tude"...perhaps you need some protein in your diet, you sound rather bitter....:twocents:

And PS: Vegans have their own health issues too and have been known to drop dead suddenly or have co-morbitities that kill them.:uhoh3:

First line is very rude and uncalled for in my opinion.

About the PS, one rarely hears of vegans dropping dead, but heart disease caused by atherosclerosis kills millionis. I'd rather take my chances on "almost vegan" if I were a gambling man. :)

I brought in that entire box of chocolate bars from my son's soccer team fundraiser and donated it to the ER staff.

50 chocolate bars. Gone in 2 hours.

If someone is offended by people reaching out in the best way they know, that is sad.

Head back in time to this thread for some good information.

Helping each other as much as possible goes a long way to better morale. When you know your co-workers and/or charge nurses won't let you sink if they can help it you can get through anything. You may need to be the only one doing it at first to get the ball rolling.

It was a nice gesture and the poster said it was tactless.....come on...give it a break already. Some people don't like anything you do for them.....you can't please everybody all the time. In my ER they also do subs, salad days, ice cream.....chinese, mexican...all kinds of stuff. It was the gesture that was nice....not tactless....if you don't like the food offered as a atta-boy, we appreciate you kind of gesture...fine...you too are in the minority there....and a whiner too.

Doesn't sound like whining to me. Lots of people appreciate the gesture but don't appreciate the food when given junk food as a "reward". Next time junk food is brought look around at how many people pass, or eat just a token small amount. Although the majority of us flock to it like pigs at a trough. 46yearold isn't alone in her sentiments.

I've never seen anyone pass on junk food or pizza...shoot...I've actually seen them eat stale donuts once and thought it was discusting....but I certainly didn't say it to them.:lol2:

So because I don't think like you or the majority I'm a whiner....interesting.

Being the good southern gentleman I am I would never ever insult another person's gesture with food. I might politely decline saying "maybe later, but thanks so much". And I always tell families, docs, or managers, who ask what they can do for us to bring in food and goodies because that's what the majority wants.

However, I would allow the vegans/health nuts in my surroundings to have their opinions and honor that as well.

Interesting because I can think of several coworkers, five or six, on my unit that never ever eat junk food brought in. They have willpower of steel. I hate them.

"Offended" is a strong word.

It's kind of like those hospitals that have a McDonalds in them, or that serve their cardiac patients bacon and eggs for breakfast. Something just doesn't seem right about that, but I'm not horribly "offended". Sometimes I do wish for a nice fruit basket and some veggies and dip rather than the unending box of donuts and candy given as "atta-boys", but I'm hardly offended.

Anyway, I've highjacked the thread enough. Back to the original topic at hand. LOL

Offended was the wrong word Tweety. Sorry about that. :redbeathe

I also prefer fruit and veggie plates. Besides being healthy. Fruits and veggies when I eat them. make me feel refreshed and help keep my breath clean. Celery all by itself while not appealing to all. Makes such a wonderful breath cleaner.

I certainly was not trying to be so controversial here. Just offering my opinion, sorry.

I don't eat any of the food that's brought in because I always pack my own lunch. But all of the other "pigs at a trough" enjoy the food brought in for them, even if they think managment is tactless and trying to kill them. ha ha;)

I know what you mean by trough, whether its the boss buying food, or a drug sales rep buying lunch, some people just have to be the first and longest in there. Funny and sad at times.
