Can someone post a list of the books you're using in the Gateway LPN program? I would appreciate it much!

Mighty, Congrats on getting in, I heard they may be changing their book list, just enjoy the free time we have now. Are you in the day or evening program?

Congrats! Yes, they may be changing the main textbook. J was getting our input as to what we liked about current book, what we didn't like, etc. So, not sure if she decided to switch or not. As far as the other books honestly didn't use most of them. There is a lab/diagnostic book (never used), Saunder's Nclex (used....ALOT), procedure dvd (never used as we watched them in lab), PN case studies (used 1x on a lab day 1st semester and 1x on a lab day 2nd semester), Mosby drug book (used...ALOT), Pharmacology book (used....sometimes, not a lot). I also purchased separately an AWESOME careplan book (absolute necessity) and the HESI PN-NCLEX study guide from evolve (great to study for quizes and HESI).
Also, just a hint that I wish I had known at beginning of block one, the main text is HUGE. You can go to copy services and have it unbound and rebound into 2-3 smaller books, that way you don't have to lug the huge book all over.
Thanks for the reply! I'm in the day program. You?

I didn't post the first request, but I'm in the same boat wanting more info and really appreciate your candid reply. They said they give us our book list at orentation 2 days before our start date. I don't want to wait until the last minute and have to buy the books full price at the bookstore. I just put in a pre-order for the new Saunders Nclex book coming out in October (you can get it through Barnes and Noble online). Do you think we'll need it before then (August start date)? Is it part of the books required for the class or was it something extra you found helpful? Which care plan book did you use?
Thanks for the info and tips! I was looking for a good NCLEX-PN review book, too. Did they give you the Saunder's one, or was it purchased separate, also?

Guess we were posting at the same time, with the NCLEX book question :).
Mighty, I was accepted to the evening program, thank Goodness, I couldn't do it
PediRN, what was the AWESOME care plan book you purchased? Thankyou so much for such great info.
The Saunder's NCLEX came in the book box sold thru Gateway, however, I purchased all of my books separately thru Barnes and Noble, Evolve, and Amazon and saved over $100. I got my Saunder's through Amazon. I ended up getting the 4th edition (lastest edition at the time) and everyone else who got the book box got the old 3rd edition (hee). I would call the bookstore probably in July and ask them what books are in the box pkg. Or, email JL and she can probably tell you which books are included, that way you can price them before August class start.
I will post the careplan book when I get home as I don't know the name off the top of my head. SEveral of us got the same book. I looked at many, many different careplan books and this was by far the best. Made doing the care plans (we had 1 every wk in our clinical group) much easier. It was a little pricey but worth every penny!
You don't really use the NCLEX book in class. It is more a self-study as prep for HESI and NCLEX. However, I and my studygroup used it to study for quizes as well. Honestly, I would maybe get another NCLEX study guide (kaplan, etc) to use until October. I got mine in June of last year and started reading it and practicing questions before I even started the program in August. It is good to start getting used to the questions as they are not like anything you will have had on tests before. Trust me.

here is the info for the care plan book:
nursing care plans : nursing diagnosis and intervention by [color=#5a7d56]meg gulanick, [color=#5a7d56]judith l. myers
textbook paperback - new edition
again, it is pricey but worth every penny. it looks like there is a new edition coming out that you can pre-order and it is less than this one. however, not sure how it would compare to this one.
PediRN, Thank you SSSOOOOOooo much, I will get the edition you have. Thanks for the warning about price, I sometimes hesitate about price but with such a rave review, I'll take it. There's only one thing I would max out my credit cards for and that's Education, Thank you
