Books and those accepted for Spring

Published

Those of you accepted for Spring... does your school require that you buy your books from the bookstore? Or, did they give you a book list? My school wants us to buy them from the bookstore, but I think I'm going to ask for a book list. Im afraid that might anger them though, haha. But it would save me so much money to order my books elsewhere.

What are all of you doing about books?

The main reason to buy them from the bookstore is to make sure that you get any cd's that are bundled with them. If your school uses the cd's and you get books that doen't have them, you will have to pay for them separately. This could end up costing you the same amount of money as you would have spent in the bookstore to begin with.

Ours gave us a booklist. There is a bundle of three books that we're supposed to buy at the bookstore, but the rest we can get wherever.

My school gave us a book list for the Spring semester last month so we can start planning financially...which was actually pretty nice of them. I've started buying some of the texts (online or at a used textbook store)every other week when its payday. The only required books to buy at the bookstore, at my school, are the shrink-wrapped syllabi for the first semester. :D

For books that are available elsewhere you're entitled to shop around for the best price. I don't see why they would care. I mostly use amazon except for books and/materials that are only available from the school - e.g. a school produced study guide.

Get a book list, and if you know who your professors will be, make contact with them, and ask if they mind you using older editions of books. Most of my professors didn't mind me using an older edition as many times the book won't change significantly between an edition or two. If they will let you use older editions, ebay is a great place to look, and you can typically find books for a steal there. I paid $14 for my A&P book!:D If you need online access for your class, you can typically purchase an access code from the website that runs the online content for about $50-70 I think.

If you are not allowed to use older editions, and are required to have new books/editions, definitely amazon. You can typically get a new book with access code/cd for about the same as a used book from the school's bookstore.

It doesnt hurt to find out the exact books needed for the courses at your local college bookstore. Write down the ISBN, book title, author and remember the book cover....... then walk to the school library and search the prices online on the computer.

My school has released the ISBN for the 3 books, and 2 study guides that we need.

their only requirement is that the STUDY books has nothing written on them!
