So, I had an interview today and it did not go well. I think the main question I messed up was why I wanted to work in surgery. How do you say I like that the patients are asleep and there is mostly NO family interaction, without sounding uncaring? This is what she told me surgical nursing was like.

I said I had always been attracted to the environment, and felt I was more attracted to "procedural" nursing rather than "educational" nursing..actually, that was what she asked me, was I more "procedural or educational" and I said I had always found myself trying to go with patients to procedures rather than staying on the floors and that was what held my interest.

I must admit that I do enjoy those aspects of my job sometimes! :) You can always say something like you feel that the OR gives you the opportunity to focus on caring for one patient at a time, you enjoy teamwork (very important in the OR) and you enjoy learning about different procedures and help patients at their most vulnerable time in the hospital.

Say that you like being the voice for your patient when they are their most vulnerable- sedated/knocked out! And also that you like the technical aspects of nursing.
Truthfully it probably wasn't as bad as you think. See how it turns out.
Wow, a good way to put it, precedural vs. educational, I never thought of it that way. Thanks, we'll see what happens.
