Boces LPN-Northport NY- Any recent grads out there??

Hi I am new to the board but starting the LPN at Boces Northport NY, accelerated day program that begins in March. Looking for any recent grads to share how the program was/is.

Anyone that worked and managed to get thru the program?

How soon after can you take the boards?

How intense is the program, studying per night etc?

I doubt very highly it will be easy, I am willing to sacrifice and give up everything for the 13 mos but although I been in college before I require alot of study time to do well!!!

What are the packets given at orientation???

the book list will come and tell you were to buy them or you will get at reg/orientation

Scrubs & unifrom you can by at at the uniform store in Selden for get the name they will give you the info on Feb 26

Cant remember how much everything was sorry

The packets are homework math & med terms Due the first day of class. Basic math

The Tabers dictonary any book store

No body was "Kicked Out" some people failed out, some people found they needed to work and moved to nights, others pulled out and sarted the part time class in Sept.- people did not want to go during summer ect.Others thought BOCES is easy

We lost most the first few months March -June

You do not need a computer in class, but you need a computer at home

PS you CAN NOT tape record the teachers

Where do you wannna go for LPN to RN?

How many tests usually per week and what grades are needed to pass???

Class room this week

We get anywhere from 3-5 tests a week

75 is passing 85 in Pharm

You will love your teacher very tough but very fair, she will make you a great nurse.

And thats what matters most, I have had a very tough life and alot of challenges but all always worked out for the best!!! hard work and dedication has always been my way so i am ready for it!!!! And you are so so right, tough teachers make great students become great nurses!!!!

Was thinking to ask, do we get a lunch break lol i cant function without food:p

Who did your physical, my dr telling me my insurance wont cover the immunizations yet i have good ins/bc/bs go figure!!! so gotta find somewhere to go asap, want that done!!!! how many shots we need???

30 min for lunch

There is a small break room with fridge and microwave

My dr. Gave me mine

you just need the tiders & PPD-You can get or not the Hep vac.

Lots of reading- In care of the ind I &II you get a project for each subject

You will get projects sprinkled in alot of the subjects

No much real "Home Work"

Had a quiz today Quiz tomorrow Final on Friday

Then one week off Yippie Skippie

do we get a calendar at the registration???

Did you take out student loans or get any financial aid if you dont mind me asking, working on that now!!

Does BOCES help with job placement after graduation?? Seems alot of LPN positions want 1-2 years experience??????

You get all jewish holidays off

thur & Fri for thanksgiving

Laborday & memorial day

MLK Day

Maybe one or two other

That is why we started March 10th & end April 22

Because of the time off

I will go to study groups 3 or 4 days indpendent study & take 1-2 days off

Are you working now? If so whan is your last day?

We are in school the 26 of Feb - you will be there just a few hours

Hi, i do work now but for myself so I will continue to work, I have to, need to pay my bills. I worked in womens fitness for years, I currently do private trainings, I will lessen my hours and book alot of appts for weekends

I did not get financial aid either, go figure lol did you get the pell grant???

I was under th assumption school was 13 mos no breaks so I amsure the breaks are nice!!

Where are study groups, at BOCES?? Do you find they are better than studying alone??

Will all new students go on FEB 26?? Maybe we can meet, you have been so so helpful and I greatly appreciate:wshgrt:
