BMCC Spring 2011 hopefuls?

Published

I know this is kind of early but I just wanted to check if anybody plans to apply for the Spring 2011 nursing program at BMCC (Borough of Manhattan Community College) in NYC. I just met the preclinical advisor this week and he gave an update that CUNY eliminated the need for non-preclinical students (like me who's currently at liberal arts at BMCC) to first change their curriculum to preclinical before applying for the nursing program.

Here's an April 30 memo from the nursing department for anybody who wants to apply for the nursing program:

------------------

TO: All Non-Nursing Students

FROM: The Nursing Department

DATE: April 30, 2010

RE: Admission into the Nursing Program

Non-nursing student who want to apply to the Nursing program please note the following:

1. Admission into the Nursing program is based on the GPA in the four required prerequisite courses (Eng101, Psy100, Mat104 and BIO425) and the overall GPA for both the Day and Evening/Weekend Nursing Programs.

2. Students who want to apply for the Full-Time Day Program must wait one semester after completion of the four required pre-requisite courses to apply for admission into the Nursing program.

3. Students who work full-time during the day and want to apply for the Part-Time Evening/Weekend Program must wait one semester after completion of the following courses: ENG101, PSY100, MAT104, BIO425, BIO426, BIO420, and PSY240 or SOC100 in order to apply for admission into the Nursing Program.

4. Please be aware that admission into the Nursing Program is also based on seat availability. The College does not guarantee admission into the Nursing Program.

5. In order to advance into the Nursing Program, students must provide documentation for one of the following categories:

US Citizenship, Permanent Residency, and International Students with F1 status, Granted Asylum, Refugee Status, Temporary Protected Status, Withholding of Removal, Deferred Enforced Departure or Deferred Action Status by the US Government.

By the way, for those who are applying in late October for the Spring 2011 program, make sure to bring your advisement sheet and transcript if you took some prereqs outside BMCC. If you're applying for the evening program, also bring proof of your current employment.

I'm sooo excited to apply and can't wait for October!

Best Regards,

Dee

Hi everybody,

Just wanted to let you guys know that I made my advisement appt with Mr. ****** and applied to the day program for Spring 2011. Its up to the commitee and a higher power now, but if you haven't already make the appt with the nursing advisor and apply. Good luck to you guys!!

Hi Solange,

Congrats!!! Good Luck to you!! If you don't mind me asking, how long was the application? Also how long does it take to fill out the application?

I made my appointment on Saturday for see the Nursing Coordinator next Monday. Can't wait!

Best,

icesk8ter

The application was really short and easy, more like contactand basic info and then that paper is attached to your advisement sheet and I think if you have to take other classes then he'll advise you but other than that it was really quick. I just can't believe I have to wait so long to find out!

Hi folks,

I also saw the nursing coordinator last week. Actually I had a run-around with him as first, he doesn't have my BMCC advicement/transcript sheet at hand so I needed to go to the Advicement center and they refused to print out my transcript unless I go to the English Department (because I'm a Liberal Arts student). There was nobody at that time at the English Department since it was already 5p so I demanded the Advicement center to print it out as I don't want to make another appointment to ****.

And then, since I am applying for the evening program, he told me that I need a letter from my employer stating proof that I am working full time. Another girl, whose appt. was also that day had the same problem as the nursing dept. told her just a salary stub is enough and no need to have an letter of employment proof.

So I had to go back the next day to submit the letter.

Aside from that, he just calculated my first 4 prereq subjects, and then total prereq GPA. Then he gave a form for me to fill up. And yes, if you took prereqs from other school, then you have to bring a photocopy of that school's transcript.

He did not say when they will start confirming whose in/out, but you might want to ask him about that.

Good luck to us and hope to see you all next year!

Best Regards,

Dee

Hi Dee and Solange,

Hi folks,

I just found that Nur112 course for Spring 2011 evening will only have 25 available seats during registration (yikes!). Schedule is as follows:

Sat 8-3:45p (HOSP) instructor:*********

Tues 5:45-7:25 then 7:35-9:15 (N721)

Thurs 5:45-7:25 then 7:35-9:15 (N721)

The morning classes have 28 and 25 available seats...

Best regards,

Dee

Hey Dee,

I saw that too and it freaked me out haha! But at the beginning there was 35 in each NUR 112 section. Also, all the other nursing classes say 28 as well and there are way more than 84 students in NUR 211 aren't there? Maybe I'm wrong, I totally could be. Its just something else for me to freak out about now because I just realized I only have an overall gpa of 3.93! Do you think it will ruin my chances of getting into the day program?

Hey Solange,

It could be that they already excluded SEIU seats although I thought they only alloted 15 seats for them per sem. I don't think you should worry about your overall GPA, that's pretty high. I have 3.87 so keeping my fingers crossed especially if they only have 25 seats available for evening!

It is just driving me nuts that we have to wait for almost 2 months, I'm so impatient lol! :uhoh3:

Hey. I am new to this site. I actually applied to BMCC's nursing program last semester and did not get in, so I transfered to another school and am trying to get into theirs.

Tips:

I would just tell you to make sure you have a gpa above 3.8. Just try to get the highest gpa you can.

Have a back up plan. Apply to other schools... just in case. BMCC is very competitive. Good luck!

Hey possibility,

Do you mean a 3.8 overall GPA or for the pre-reqs? Do you mind if I ask what your gpa's were? Its good that you have alternate plans.
