I know this is kind of early but I just wanted to check if anybody plans to apply for the Spring 2011 nursing program at BMCC (Borough of Manhattan Community College) in NYC. I just met the preclinical advisor this week and he gave an update that CUNY eliminated the need for non-preclinical students (like me who's currently at liberal arts at BMCC) to first change their curriculum to preclinical before applying for the nursing program.
Here's an April 30 memo from the nursing department for anybody who wants to apply for the nursing program:

RE: Admission into the Nursing Program
Non-nursing student who want to apply to the Nursing program please note the following:
1. Admission into the Nursing program is based on the GPA in the four required prerequisite courses (Eng101, Psy100, Mat104 and BIO425) and the overall GPA for both the Day and Evening/Weekend Nursing Programs.
2. Students who want to apply for the Full-Time Day Program must wait one semester after completion of the four required pre-requisite courses to apply for admission into the Nursing program.
3. Students who work full-time during the day and want to apply for the Part-Time Evening/Weekend Program must wait one semester after completion of the following courses: ENG101, PSY100, MAT104, BIO425, BIO426, BIO420, and PSY240 or SOC100 in order to apply for admission into the Nursing Program.
4. Please be aware that admission into the Nursing Program is also based on seat availability. The College does not guarantee admission into the Nursing Program.
5. In order to advance into the Nursing Program, students must provide documentation for one of the following categories:
US Citizenship, Permanent Residency, and International Students with F1 status, Granted Asylum, Refugee Status, Temporary Protected Status, Withholding of Removal, Deferred Enforced Departure or Deferred Action Status by the US Government.

By the way, for those who are applying in late October for the Spring 2011 program, make sure to bring your advisement sheet and transcript if you took some prereqs outside BMCC. If you're applying for the evening program, also bring proof of your current employment.

I'm also taking my last few classes (micro and dev psych), but I have a 4.0 pre-clinical gpa and a 4.0 overall gpa; I'm just trying to make sure I maintain all A's this semester. I also will definitely post if/when they call and I hope you make it too! Good luck!
That seems to sum it up pretty nicely :). Also FYI, if you took some of the prereqs outside of BMCC, pls. don't forget to bring a copy of your old school's transcript when you meet the nursing coordinator as he needs to evaluate those. For some reason, BMCC transcripts do not reveal grades that was transferred from your old school . Another tip is to bring copy of salary statement if you are applying for the evening program as they want to have proof that you are working.

I'm sure both of you will do just fine getting in based on your GPAs. Like ices8ter, I'm also applying for the evening program. I have a GPA of 4.0 for the 4 prereqs and overall GPA of 3.86. Goodluck with the last prereqs this fall. By the way Icesk8tr, I hope you were able to get a good instructor for microbio. I enjoyed the subject despite the crappy prof I had.

Congrats on the fantastic GPA, I know you will get in as well!! I have a quirky professor for MicroBio, but I don't mind, atleast he is interesting. :) I'm sorry that you didn't have a great experience with your professor, but atleast you are done with the subject, so that is a huge accomplishment. Let me know when you have your appointment. I still have to make mine.

Sorry you weren't able to make the fall class. If you're attending school full time, you can actually take all of the 4 prereqs in one semester (as long as you already finish general chem to be able to take AP1). You have to make sure though that you can carry this load and be able to get all As. This way, you could apply for Fall 2011.
My advice is to talk to the nursing coordinator on the 7th floor on what's your options. Ask him if you can apply for the Fall 2011 program if you are able to finish all four prereqs in Spring 2011 or even take AP1 and Psy in Spring + Eng and Mat in Summer 2011.
I am not sure if you should even show BMCC your old transcript if you want to retake all of them unless they also want to see that you already finish your general chem to be able to retake AP1. I had to transfer my general chem but I insisted that they disregard my Eng101 grade because I wanted to take them again.
If they insist on getting your old transcript and transferring your general chemistry grade, just make sure that they will not transfer the 4 prereq subjects or you won't be able to make it to the nursing program.
Congrats on the fantastic GPA, I know you will get in as well!! Flashcards really helped me memorize all those bacteria/fungi/yeast names and their associated illnesses/diagnostics.
What they told me was. ....that my school has to send them my transcript and when that happens all my classes get transfer but its up to the adviser to give me credit for them or not. .....if they dont accept them which they wont in bmcc......then i have to retake them again to get all a's. .......i just applied at lui and they are willing to take all the ones that got;b+ but they need me to retake the math only so i think i will start nursing very soon. ....because they not giving me such a hard time like bmcc. .......ill keep u informed
