I live in a very rural area, the nearest city or hospital about 40 minutes away, so coming across a BLS class that I can be able to attend is really hard. I've been trying for about 3 months to get into each one I come across, but they're already filled, and when I've asked when the next on would be, most didn't have an answer. One told me they wouldn't be having any more until the new year. I'm finally registered for one, but the director of my program emailed me about this and said the date is too late, and I wouldn't be allowed to attend clinical.
Since this was the only one I could find in my area, I'm looking into the online BLS program from the American Heart Association. My only issue with it is the skills checkoff. Do you HAVE to go to an AHA training center to be checked off, or can it be done by someone who is certified by AHA to teach?

Have you checked with your local fire/rescue squads? I've known some of the members to have taught CPR as a side line for some extra income. Maybe they can help you?
I work with a lady who's on the fire department, and she's looking around for me. Hopefully someone can help.

I don't want to sound harsh...however, 40 min is not far. If it was that important I would be checking every firehouse, EMS service, hospital, rehab center, nursing home, red cross center in a 50 MILE radius to find a hospital grade CPR course. How about where you get clinical?
If I needed it for school I would would be looking for it myself instead of having someone I know who works part time or on a volunteer status at a fire department to find it for me.
Nursing is ALL about accountability. I have said this again and again to my daughter (who is 20) and she has become very responsible and has only 3 semesters left of her BSN carrying a 3.9 GPA. When you become a nurse no one is going to do anything for you. It is ALL about initiative and responsibility...hospitals have these are regular almost weekly intervals. I wold also call them to see if they would check off your skills after certifying online.

Look online and see if there are any training centers. Then contact each one. Fire departments are a good idea. My fire department charged someone 200 dollars to do a last minute first aid class because it was last minute. They gave the money to me.
