Had my nclex today, not getting good vibes!! Loads and loads of questions about drugs I have never heard of, and it stopped at 75. Not looking very good me thinks! Will probably have to pay to do it again. Hey ho!!

Number of questions means absolutely nothing. You can pass with 75, an fail with 75. You can pass with 265, and fail with the same. Same thing for any numbers in between. It is strictly on the types of quesitons that you get, not the number.
I didn't even have a look in on the 'who gets the Premium Membership?' issue. Not even asked if I'd like to. It was a done deal. We all know what midwives are like And to be married to one? You wouldn't want to go there CheersOG :sofahider

it is not the number of questions at all. the computer will continue giving questions until it has determined with 99% certainty you have reach minimum competency.
that being said..most poeple who stop at 75 pass. yes, many fail there also. i prefer to think positively!
my test stopped at 75 and i thought i would cry. i could only remember three questions i thought i got right. i called my director of nursing and she tried to calm me down. she said," tell me about the last couple of questions you had." i drew a complete blank!! i was brain dead. but it is not meant to be easy.
and yes i found out two days later i had passed. hang in there!!

Maybe I didn't make my point very clear.
As WV_heart_RN states, "It is not the number of questions at all. The computer will continue giving questions until it has determined with 99% certainty you have reach minimum competency."
In other words if you have overwhelmingly failed at 75 questions then your test is over. If the test continues it means that you are close enough to a passing score that the computer will continue to give you chances to answer enough correctly to achieve a passing score.
Many (I think most) people pass rather than fail with the lower number of test questions. As I said, if you overwhemingly blew it in the first 75 questions the test will end. But most people know enough and do well enough that the computer continues to give them chances for more and more questions until they have achieved a passing score or demonstrated that a pass is not possible. One clue the computer gave me while I took it (that was in '95 so it could have changed) is that after I missed questions the computer took longer and actually made churning sounds as it took note of the incorrect response and determined the next question to pose. Other people had that same experience and came to the same conclusion - the incorrest answers caused the computer software to pause and think which questions should come next.
I never encountered anyone who failed the test if they finished the test after being given 80 or less questions. That is certainly a possible outcome but unlikely I really do think.
Trying to encourage you in a realistic way!

HI I also felt the same as you when I sat the NCLEX, it shut off at 75, I had lots of questions about peads and drugs both a weak spot 4 me so I thought I must have failed. 2 weeks later I found I had passed. Fingers crossed keep positive.
