Hi, I'm a new nurse and recently went to an interview at Planned Parenthood. The interviewer told me to get blood draw training for the job. However, I've been looking online and have only found training to be a phlebotomist. I asked my old professor and she doesn't have a clue. Does anyone know of any places that offer blood draw training for nurses in NJ or will I have to take the phlebotomy course?

Strange. The places I know of all offer on the job training for phlebotomy. Sounds like you may end up taking that phlebotomist class if you can't find someone to teach you.

If you're in NJ but close enough to one of the neighbor states, try looking there. I've done ots of CE in Penna.

i know that some of the county colleges offer 1 or 2 day iv certification courses - perhaps they would have something that would fit your needs
Hi everyone. Thank you for your posts. Planned Parenthood called me back for a second interview so it is something I am going to ask about. However, I did find a place in Philadelphia that offers a blood draw course for nurses. They said they'd put me on the list and whenever a group is put together, they'll contact me but god only knows how long that will be.

Check the nursing spectrum or advance magazine web site. I've seen them there before.

I took to the course in NJ in 2ooo. At the time the high schools had night time adult education programs, and one of them was phlebotomy.

Some community colleges have courses here in Texas.

Congrats on the interviews at Planned Parenthood! Every so often, there are ads on Craigslist for 2 day training for phelbotomy. I believe you do get a certificate saying you completed the course. I don't think it was terribly expensive.

Go with a 2 day course. Phlebotomy courses are normally 4 weeks of lecture and then an extern.
