Agreed. Safety first. Place yourself in the patient's shoes. How would you feel if you were the patient, with your current knowledge, watching someone pass meds the way you have been instructed to? Most patients do not know the rules and regulations, but that is where our integrity comes into play. I keep putting targets on my back by opening my mouth, however, my integrity and conscious prevents me from skipping safety rules. It's how mistakes happen and it places someone at risk. in my opinion of course. ?
  2. The offer is still good. I am awaiting the final offer.
  3. I am now definitely leaning towards NC. I went to orientation yesterday at the jail, there are 3 per diem nurses "trying out" for the same full-time position. Has anyone ever heard of this, except on House. Lol. thank you all for your feedback.
  4. EKRN2014, thank you for your feedback and advice. I'll post here when I finally decide.
  5. Well...after how the past 3 1/2 years have gone, I am not sure how I am in my current predicament. I have 2 job offers and cannot decide which to take. 1. Charge nurse, corrections, private company. In NJ. 2. Pediatric Nurse, Hospital unit. US Army as a civilian. In NC Pay is approx $8000 more for corrections position. In the long-term, benefits are better for Peds job. I currently live in NJ. All of my immediate family lives in NJ except my parents. I have a 19 year old son, 3 brothers and their spouses, 1 nephew, 3 nieces, and a Goddaughter in NJ. My family is important to me. I had my son when I was 18 years old and every decision I have made since then, was always in his best interest. Now he is at College, and has plenty of places he can stay, so he really isn't a crucial part of the equation anymore. Since I started nursing school I have wanted to work in a hospital. Unable to find a hospital job, I have worked as a camp nurse, a substitute school nurse, a pediatric home health nurse, and 2 short stints in LTC. I know I love nursing. I have loved patient care at every job I have held. The parental units think it's a better decision to go. A friend and one of my brothers think I should stay. I am willing to take any advice I can get. Anyone worked in either of these capacities? Anyone relocate to a state hours away from home and know not a soul? I am afraid of making the wrong decision.
  6. Oh yeah, and I obtained my BSN in May 2013. This area is flooded. You def. need to work your way up.
  7. HouTx....... This is not entirely true, especially in NJ. I attended a county college and the fee that we were required to pay to the associated hospital was between $5000-$6000 a semester, in addition to the college tuition and fees. My nursing pin has the college and the hospital. I obtained my RN July 2011. I am doing Homecare and substitute school nursing. There is NO shortage of experienced nurses in NJ. Also depends on who you know...
  8. AFWife727..From what I understand, as long as you meet the minimum requirements for the position, they have to at least interview you. I used the resume builder on USAJobs.gov as well.
  9. This is the case in most facilities in NJ because you are working below your license. You become a liability to the employer. It stinks. Because once you pass boards and share that info, if they do not hire you as an RN, you become unemployed. It is awful!
  10. Oh....the committee. That means that you did not have a perfectly clean background check or you admitted to doing something wrong in the past. Honestly, I am not sure if they meet in August. I had a friend take the test 2 years ago the first week in aug and did not get her number until October. Be patient. It is worth the wait.
  11. Go with a 2 day course. Phlebotomy courses are normally 4 weeks of lecture and then an extern.
