Check your state board of nursing website, they may have the statistics. Here in Texas the number of black nurses is lower among the younger generation, higher in the 40s (then again, the median age IS 40something for a nurse in Texas).

I am one..I have a special pride to my achievement @ 22yo...There are roughly 2.6 million american licensed RNs and of those RNs only 4.9% are Black & only 5.4% are men.
The average age of a RN is 45.2years old & only 9.1% of all RNs are under the age of 30.
I feel like I'm a part of some chosen fraternity by God, Lol! For the most part, I try to remain humble and never tell anyone....
Here's an interesting side note: Black and Asian/Pacific Islander nurses are more likely than all other nurses to have at least baccalaureate preparation

Black male BSN student here. From my experience, there are not that many Black men in nursing.

I am a black male and just getting started with school. Already hit a few bumps along the way, that had nothing to do with me being black. I had a feeling when I started it wasn't many. I just hope to make my family proud of me and most importantly being proud of myself.

Hi All,
I am also a Black male nurse and recently moved from Michigan to the Dallas-TX metro area .
I graduated in 1996, before that I was an LPN.
I have a BSc, MBA, LNC, and I am currently working on a MPH and MSN-Education (next Doctoral degree).
I am a member of Sigma Theta Tau and I love being a MALE nurse.
I have worked in a variety of settings; health care management, long-term care, home care, med-surg, corrections nursing, and now psych nursing.
Proud Male RN!
